IF you love someone and they die you will not do something that goes against their will- if I read correctly he stopped her book when she originally wanted to do it. I know I will be dragged over hot coals but alot of what is going on with many of his associates -especially the ex wives - seems disrespectful at this time. He really just died and the timing is in bad taste and for a woman who he stopped talking to or getting on with it is in a very bad taste. He divorced her years ago and no romance story and retelling will change it. Unrequited love is painful and many of us do not get the love we want to love us back but that is not a greenlight to clutch them forever and rewrite the past or change the view of that person in the future. It is her story but he was finished with any relationship with her, remembering how intensely private he was . . . I think that he would not have wanted a book about them especially now-Prince cannot give his side- he cannot speak for himself. It will not be balanced nor accurate.
It hurts how noone gives a damn about his Prince's wishes in death. People who were in his bands sure play the music and give the concerts but an ex-wife is a different category, especially one that was dismissed forever. If you love someone in life and death you protect them forever- Protect even if it is not the best for you; you respect forever . It appears to me that love for many who say they loved Prince is a self-serving, disrespectful love. You can tell me all you want you love me but actions speak louder than words. Prince was private and the ones who are respecting him in death as he would have wanted in life -Much Respect to them all and I appreciate them. There are some who have stories and have been offered millions to spill and write of their time with Prince but the love and respect for Prince meant more. No jealousy for Mayte and the fact that such a juvenille, mean girl type thing is being spouted is so wrong it gives example of the disrespect for Prince and the man he became.
Personally, I had never heard anything about what his "wishes" were concerning a book/books being written about him. Are you thinking that just because Mayte appears to be the jilted ex-wife, she's gonna write some horrific tell-all. Protect what? The only thing to protect would be some of his fans "Perfect Pollyanna" image of him. Love has nothing to do with the truth. And that is all I ask of Mayte, is that she be fair and balanced. We already (or should I say "I" already know) know P was no angel. And neither is/was she. Tbh, nothing she says about P in her book would shock me because I know outside of his outstanding talent he was still just a man/human being with faults (Thus, the thread: "Do you think people forgave Prince before he died?"). As far as the ones who were offered millions to "spill the beans" or whatever, not sure if it was out of "love" and "respect" or what the reason was. Because Jellybean Johnson, Morris Day, Mark Brown had already spilled plenty of beans (LOL!) And let's not forget there was one person who was writing a tell-all but decided at the last minute to tear it up. Maybe they didn't want to get on P's bad side (defamation of character lawsuit ect.) afraid of the backlash from his ardent fan base, or numerous other reasons. I've been hoping for a book from Mayte and can't wait to read it! |

Fuck this book. Regardless of what anybody says its tacky to write about your ex after they pass away and fuck whoever doesnt like it. Opportunistic muthafuckas
I disagree. My book in my signature discusses the years of my life in which I lived with an aunt who is no longer alive. It also discusses my years with my parents, who are no longer living. It is the same premise, writing about someone who is no longer in your life. It was my experiences, my life, my thoughts, my remembrances. I am free to do with those what I choose to do with them. I would hope people would not judge me for writing about MY life and my experiences. Writing about them has allowed me to heal from them and move forward with my life. It was cathartic. Who are we to judge what Mayte (or anyone else) chooses to do with the remembrances of their life experiences? Does everyone else who writes about their divorce, life, etc., get a pass because they aren't writing about Prince? Or is it only because she shared a part of her life with Prince and will be talking about some of those experiences in which she does not get a pass? So, are we going to say that everyone else, around the globe, gets to write about their life experiences and try to heal from those times, except for those that were involved with Prince? Those few people [read: Mayte] must not write about their life experiences because those experiences include Prince.
All of this judgment against what others are doing with their lives, whether they are designing clothes, writing books, etc., where does it come from? Is it really about the fact that she is writing about an ex after they pass, or is it because her ex happens to be Prince? What people seem to be forgetting, with this book especially, is this was a huge part of Mayte's life, not just Prince's. There were two people in the relationship. It is her life and her choice what she chooses to do in regards to those memories. It is as though everyone is saying, "Well, you know Mayte, I understand that this was your life, a huge part of your life, but you know, because he was famous, because he was someone many people around the world feel strongly about, you cannot write about him because we don't approve. Nevermind, that people have been writing about famous people throughout history. That doesn't apply here because none of those famous people were Prince. Since your experiences involved Prince, yeah, no, you don't get to write about him so it's wrong of you to publish this book."

I too am looking forward to Mayte's book. I'm a big enough girl to handle whatever truths she chooses to share without it affecting my opinion of Prince. It also seems presumptuous to assume what Prince would have wanted by anyone who was a perfect stranger to him. And it's not like life as we know it is The Prince Show and the rest of us (including Mayte) are just sitting in some audience supplying the laugh track. Prince is dead so IT'S not all about Prince anymore, and by IT I mean life.
And I don't think a woman who was "dismissed" years ago by a man owes that man a lifetime of blind loyalty. That is about as one sided and abusive as it gets. [Edited 10/5/16 21:26pm]

From the Eboy article in 2015:
EBONY: Do you ever see yourself writing a memoir?
Prince: You ever heard of checking your list to see who’s naughty and who’s nice? I just let people talk. I was talking to somebody about “The Beautiful Ones.” They were speculating as to who I was singing about. But they were completely wrong.
If they look at it, it’s very obvious. “Do you want him or do you want me,” that was written for that scene in Purple Rain specifically. Where Morris [Day] would be sitting with [Apollonia], and there’d be this back and forth. And also, “The beautiful ones you always seem to lose,” Vanity had just quit the movie. To then speculate, “Well, he wrote that song about me”? Afterwards you go, “Who are you? Why do you think that you’re part of the script that way? And why would you go around saying stuff like that?”
So we just let people talk and say whatever they want to say. Nine times out of 10, trust me, what’s out there now, I wouldn’t give nary one of these folks the time of day. That’s why I don’t say anything back, because there’s so much that’s wrong.
Anybody in their right mind knows that song was not about Mayte Garcia. Prince had never even met the woman at that point in time (when it was written). Later on, Prince went on to write The Most Beautiful Girl In The World for Mayte. |

It was written before Blame It On Vanity. As a matter of fact, BIOV was written "instead of" or "in place of" that first book/manuscript. She had written quite a bit, but tore it all up and decided to trash it. Then she went on to write BIOV. I find the title of the second book ironic (Blame It On Vanity). I wonder what that first book's title would have been? |

I remember her talking about that on one of those Christian shows- How the first manuscript was laying it all out there and how God told her it was wrong so she tore it up. Can't imagine what that would have said...

Just out of curiousity I want to know how she is the love of his life when she admitted to NBC in 2012 stating she has not spoken to Prince since the divorce? In the words of Mayte:
“I’ve been divorced for 12 years, but I’m still known just as Prince’s ex-wife,” says the Puerto Rican artist, who lives with her mother and counts eight dogs, two cats, and five birds as dear pets. “Before I even met him I had a professional career and I continue to work towards that every day. We all have our struggles, but it’s how you move on from a high-profile divorce that matters.” Garcia, who says she hasn’t told Prince about her role on the two reality shows and hasn’t spoken to him since the divorce, explains that when it comes to the entertainment business, she’s still auditioning for projects that allow her to pursue her passion – dance. She’s in the process of auditioning for a new dance-themed flick starring “Dancing with the Stars” alum William Levy.

I've never heard anyone say that Mayte "is" (as in present tense) the love of P's life. She "was" at one time, but that was in the past. To let a handful of orgers and others elsewhere tell it, Vanity was the love of his life...Sheila E....Susannah Melvoin...and on and on it goes. But I'm sure her book won't focus on who he loved the most but about their initial meeting, romance, how their relationship culminated into marriage, the painful death of their two children and marriage. It'll probably start off telling a little bit about Ms. Garcia. Her childhood, parents, where and how she grew up (I heard her dad was in the military). P's death opened up old wounds for Mayte and she's just ready to tell her story that's all. We gotta stop all this "Who he loved the most" talk, cause it solves/proves nothing. For ex: There was talk on one of a series of videos Fiona3000 put up on YouTube saying that P had a Madonna/Whore complex (Vanity was the whore, Mayte, the madonna) and that's why he married Mayte (the "pure" one, so to speak) but Vanity was the one who truely had his heart. That's some bullsh*t if I ever heard any. Look at what ended up happening to his relationship with the "pure" one. This is the thing that people refuse to see/acknowledge: Even if Vanity was the virgin/girl next door type and Mayte had been the "whore", and he'd married Vanity. The minute something goes sour (miscarriages ect.) in the marriage, he's outta there (even though I think his marriage(s) would have ended even if he did have healthy, living children, but that's a whole 'nother thread). People, at the end of the day, P was loyal to no one but P, in that he did what ever, how ever, with whom ever he wanted, as it pleased him! |

you are right about that, so I guess the book should actually be titled my time with PRince. As for the Fiona3000 videos what a mess lol |

Idk, could be. But her style of writing, along with wording would have clarified whether or not she meant to glorify the lifestyle/behavior. In fact, she could have written in the Foreward/Preface:
This book is in no way written to glorify the perils and the pitfalls of the entertainment business, nor to taint the images of those mentioned, But is a testament of my life's journey and experiences. Any people, names, places, and situations similar to readers of this memoir are purely coincidental.
-Denise Matthews-
Ya know, something like that. That's just a wild example off the top of my head, but yeah, I think she was pissed at Prince at one time and just wanted to tell it all, but for her own personal reasons just didn't. |
