Dez Dickerson's Post on Facebook

Dez posted this yesterday. Not sure if it's directed at anyone in "particular" wink but found the bolded statement very interesting ... Tommy B posted a comment to it hmmm

---

The willingness and ability to separate people from their opinions while valuing and respecting them intrinsically is one of the chief indicators of personal wholeness. Conversely, thin-skinned reactivity and a pervasive pattern of hearing things people aren't saying is a major indicator of dysfunction. Presumption is the lowest and least reliable form of information-those who traffic heavily in it will also have difficulty in developing an adult relationship with reality. When a person cannot distinguish between one's disagreement with their opinion and rejection, that person is showing you who they are-when they feel the need to broadcast their 'case', they advertise their condition...

What was Tommy's comment?
"We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

Man I prefer the people Prince worked with later in his career. Next to no drama with those folks, just really good friends.

I really don't think there is. I don't know who that is directed at. For all we know it is a Prince fan that attacked Dez. I did read something from someone on a FB Prince group that recently sent a message to Dez and she didn't like his response. So for all I know it could be about that.

Drama is a part of life. And I don't think there is so much drama with the proteges, 1 or 2 people posting negative stuff doesn't mean there is drama with the proteges. After the past weekend with so many of them @ First Avenue and over the years from Sheila E the Family the Time the Revolution supporting each other. I don't think it is

LOL Dez is no protege. He was a musician and in a band before he joined Prince - just to be clear. (Not that you necessarily meant that.)

However, past all that, I think he could be talked about the negativity of one Ms. Jill Jones, and her double-flipped-bird FB post that she cowardly deleted after the fact, calling The Revolution "milli vanilli band". The thread addressing it on the Org has been deleted or hidden, and probably rightly so. Needless to say, it wasn't favorable overall.

This experience will cover courtship, sex, commitment, fetishes, loneliness, vindication, love, and hate.

yes, especially the ladies.
But like someone else said, "Prince wasn't having sex with them" lol which is kinda true.
I would though like to know(not fully) what they felt when Andy Allo came along. How he put her up, even having them back her and she could barely play the guitar live. I love Andy and I think they were pretty professional about it, but to hear some thoughts about this.

Or even Bria Valente

Nice memory from Elisa here:

http://www.reviewjournal....ger-prince
“I explained it to him when I first joined the band,” she remembers. “I said, you know, before when I was doing this when I was 21, there was no kids involved. Now that I have a 3-year-old, I really don’t know that I can tolerate being away very long.’ He said, ‘Don’t worry. We’re going to do residencies, and you can bring your family. This is a family-oriented thing, and we want to make her feel included. So he actually let me bring my daughter to rehearsals a couple of times. He played ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ on the guitar, and she sang. There’s memories I can’t even … there’s so much, I can’t even … it’s a lot.”

Eventually, the demands of the road meant Fiorillo was gone for a month and a half at a time, which started to take a toll on the singer. “That was so tough to Skype my daughter, and I know that he could feel that sadness that I was feeling,” Fiorillo says, explaining how sensitive the superstar could be.

“One summer, I remember him calling me on the phone, saying, ‘Elisa, I don’t want you to go this summer, and it’s not because I don’t want you there. I just think you need to be with your daughter. So I stayed home, and I was like, ‘Damn, I need the work.’ He really did care about that, and he didn’t want me to lose that.”

But then, in true Prince fashion, when times started getting lean, Fiorillo says, she’d get another call from him to return to the road, almost like he knew, instinctively. “It was almost like as soon as our money … the band was starting to lose a little money because we weren’t working, all of a sudden, Prince calls,” she says. “We got a gig, and we had plane tickets the next day.”

I hope it stays that way.
We never heard any issues with any previous proteges until Jill Jones recent FB rant

I suspect that had more to do with unresolved issues with Prince that actually band members

I don't even count Anna Fantastic

I don't think anyone is saying everything was beautiful 100% of the time. It never is with anybody in any relationship. I'm glad I'm not as cynical as a lot of people in this world are. I think it's a miserable way to live.

I knew Dez was intelligent by watching his interviews about Prince, but I didn't realize he was this aware.
His comment could have been directed at anyone, but given that Tommy responded as he did, it might directed at someone they both know or know of.
It's true that a sign of emotional immaturity is reacting, defending oneself, etc.
that doesn't mean we shouldn't speak up sometimes, it just means we have to separate they behavior from the person.
And it's true that those who can't (and let's face it, a lotmofmpeople have trouble with huge reactions due to past experiences), will continue to have relationship problems.
One thing I love about Prince the most is that he knew who he was regardless of what anyone said. And he didn't hit below the belt or make things personal really.
Yes, he was sensitive, but did well in this area.
It's one of the things that make him an example to me.
Not saying he was perfect. He felt hurt sometimes but overall I never saw him do back to people anything near some of the lousy stuff that was done to or said about him.
