I know it's selfish of me, but I wish folks would stop singing P's songs. Especially folks who deliberately try to sound like him. It just makes me sad.
I love good tributes, like this one by Mint Condition.
I don't think you are being selfish. they think they are. Bilal's being the new guest singer for the Revolution smacks of 'All About EVe".

I think what is really making you sad is Prince's passing, which is understandable. Still, singers love singing great songs...and P wrote a LOT of great songs, songs that will be sung from now, "until the end of time." It is inevitable, and that makes me happy to know that P's compositions will always live on.
I am personally don't have a problem with other people doing Prince songs (well not too much of a problem anyway) but having essentially a Prince imitator singing songs that Wendy and Lisa may have collaborated on (or only doing Prince songs from that era) while the Revolution backs this singer--well, it makes it seem as if Prince is replacable. Maybe, not their intention but that is what it feels like.

Well, we'll probably get to hear him backed by The NPG come October 13. And we need to be clear: Bilal is an established singer in his own right. He is not some Prince impersonator. Can we just stop that bit of nonsense, for lack of a better word. Bilal is being tapped because he is one of few known, living singers who has the range to adequately cover Prince's catalog. He is presently in the midst of his own European tour. If I'm not mistaken, he was previously booked for Oct. 13, but, apparently, he extricated himself from that gig to do the Prince tribute. And, for that, he is now being called a Prince karaoke singer, a Prince wannabe, etc. I don't get it. I mean, it's not like Bilal somehow thinks that he (or ANYONE) can "replace" Prince. That would be arrogant and foolish on his part; I don't believe he is either. So, if that is what is driving the Bilal hate/distaste, then maybe we can put that notion to bed once and for all.
