As a poet, as I read some of her work I often found it a bit odd that her titles did not match and sometimes had nothing to do with the body of the write. I did finding earlier versions of her poetry, but did not think much of it at the time. Lastnight I realized that Denise might have altered her previously written poetry and put a spiritual spin on it. Today reading her poetry from a different perspective and found something odd. Compare the two and you be the judge.

This one was changed to the one below.
The question then becomes, when were they originally written and for whom?

Hi TOB...the first thing that came to mind is Prince's song, "Solo." I know some others will chime in soon, but wanted to make sure I shared my first thoughts. It looks like the one in 'flesh' parchment is the final version. Am I right about that? Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

The first one reminds me of Prince's 'thought-process' in poetry. The second one is different. Do you know if she ever sent these to him? Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

These are so lovely to read. I did not know Denise wrote poetry such as this. These are so full of longing, waiting, anticipation and love. Very touching and beautiful
Thanks for sharing these

Wow! I have no words. TOB please keep us updated with the gold you are finding in Denise's possessions she entrusted you with. My condolences to you on the passing of your good friend Denise. Thank you for sharing with us.

I wonder if Manuela knew they kept in touch? Them two, Prince and Denise were clearly soul mates. I could've never been in a relationship with a man with his history, I'd never trust his heart. As much as I adored him, no amount of money was worth the worry, does he love me or not, he was infatuated easily by the beauty of a woman.

I don't think Prince and Denise were soulmates. I think they were just too people that had a very intense relationship and when it was over, it was over BUT perhaps he just still had feelings for her for awhile.
I think as life moved on, those romantic feelings did fade but they still had a close connection and kept in touch from time to time. I think Denise was more concerned about his soul and Prince probably took solace in their friendship or association.

luvgirl said: Geez, take it easy on the guy. He did say the letters COULD be from Prince and he's pretty much asking for our opinions. No need to be so aggressive towards him. I don't think he's trying to pull one over on us. It just seems like he's trying to figure it out himself. [Edited 9/6/16 17:32pm] -- Well I think we are letting him know that the sloppy handwriting on the one letter does not look right. I am sure Denice had friends and fans who wrote to her so maybe some of those letters got mixed in with Prince's.

My take from The floral letter is it shows me she was a woman her prompted deep love and thought from those around her- she was not shallow. Denise seems to have been alot more than a sex crazed cokehead which is how she seems to be depicted in the Prince narrative and other narratives from the 80s early 90s-this woman hit rock bottom and lived a full life all her own; a life of dignity, grace and with that unbelievable beauty God gifted her with. She did not write nasty tell alls or go to tabloids to exploit herself or even Prince. She clearly was an artist in her own right and touched many lives as an Evangelist. I appreciate TOB sharing another side to her. It is a really nice thing to see how she evolved as a person who was so much more than a Prince Protege- she totally carved out another life. I look forward to learning more about her.

Having a soulmate connection with someone is not something romantic. We can be soulmates with our children, friends, etc. Rosie Gaines called Prince her, "Musical soul mate." They often come into our lives for a specific reason (lessons, healing, even pain, etc.)It's a soul contract (and some contracts expire) Now being Twin Flames is another story all together. Prince had the ability to tap into women intuitively. All of the women in his life, be it professional or personal, seem to have been impacted by him big time. He seems deeply embedded in the psyche of all of them. I agree with you! I wouldn't trust his heart either. He seemed to become smitten quite easily but then would lose interest just as quickly as well. [Edited 9/7/16 9:08am] [Edited 9/7/16 9:13am]

That letter could very well be from Prince. I've seen some of his handwritten notes in the Music thread and his writing looks kind of sloppy at times.

I will say Denise was a very strong woman, she followed her own mind and convictions, in her artsy ways, she did have a special class and stylein whatever she did. Given what she was going through, she had the strength not only to hold herself up and together for a very long time, but was able to inspire and carry others. That's a special gift. I can see why Prince would be drawn to her even after all these years, Whether they were soulmates or not, I can't make that call but I can believe they drew something needed from one another. Something intangible.

Agreed. We should keep an open mind. He also could have dictated the letter to someone else to write on his behalf, because he did have issues with his hands and arms at times from playing guitar.

Denise saved everything... She left me her storage which contained letters and pictures going back before World War II, scapebooks of her career going back to the 70's, Day Planners, Movie Contracts, Address and Phone Books, Years of IRS Reports, Years of banking, phone and medical records. Also long winter coats (including Leather and Mink), 3 Pyramid shaped stereos, the first drafts and unedited copies of BIOV, unpublished screenplays, fanletters and lots and lots of her poetry (which she had made into posters).
For months I have not been able to bring myself to read more than a few pages, just basically enough to organize it in an order of importance to be read later.
I had hoped to share what I found interesting. That is, if there is an interest.
You should make a scrapbook of the things she left you. Thanks for sharing! Love is God,

But I don't think Manuela would have cared. She was into Eric Benet while she was married to Prince. And we all know Prince was into her before he divorced Mayte. I love him dearly but he did love the beauty of a woman. I read somewhere that with all the women and even the friends, he was still very lonely. The only time he was happy was when he was playing his guitar or doing his music. But when the show stopped, the demons of is youth, life and loneliness never left. Don't know if it's true but my heart is sure aching for him. Rest in peace now and sing in Heaven. [Edited 9/9/16 6:54am] [Edited 9/9/16 6:55am] Forever Prince

I could agree with that. I believe without doubt them two were earth mates that's for sure. They beathe life into each other. She found strength in him he found a weakness in her and vise versa. They needed each others spiritual presence to survive peacefully on this earth. They'd had all the sex and romance to last multiple lives together they were way past that. They were both strong but weak happy but sad, and both were dreamers and romantics. Perfect earth mates. Prince I believe had no soul mate, I think his was lost somewhere in between all the ones he'd hurt.

Totally believe whatever was btwn them was deep and not lust or something like that; it had to be deeper because they both had relationships w/others as their lives went on so I am in the belief that wht you said about them breathing life into each other has validity. I do not see the letters as romantic but it is between friends and they way they transitioned so close together - it appears they were tied in the spirit in some way -

I appreciate your sharing these letters and memorabilia with us. They show me a lot about both people. I just spent an hour looking at more interviews of Denise after she was reborn. She wasnindeed an extremely sweet person and like Prince was sensitive and had been wounded like so many of us. I actually got a lot of help from some things she said, and kept nodding my head in identification with her experiences. Her newfound enthusiasm on one show talking abou Jesus was really sweet. And sincere. I can see why Prince loved her so much and in glad they stayed in touch. Thanks again.
