Mazarati - Jerk Out

I revisited this on a happenstance n it hit me, this is sum vulgar, funky shit! woot! Been on repeat 4 a few days music. Love Morris, but this trumps his entirely nod. I'm cool w/ P on backup only if i never hear his version. Such a dope groove dancing jig. I can't recall liking another Maz song even their take on 100mph but Terry (i think that's his name lurking) kicks ass on Jerk Out thumbs up! n clapping guitar

Never heard it but would love too. I read on Youtube where someone commented on the

Time's version that Mazarati's version was harder and funkier but they turned it down because

of the original lyrics which the Time later reworked.

Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

I like it. Don't see what's so vulgar about it. Maybe it's just me

same here

Maybe there S&M piece about tying her up and it doesn't matter

Mazarati(PRINCE) original lyrics

I took her to my crib and I tied her up. I figured that's what she liked.
Maybe I was wrong but what the hell, it didn't matter to me. - She was white.
I said "How come people in your neighborhood, don't like it when a brother's rich?
Ain't my blood the same color as yours? Answer that question, bitch!"

It just pisses you off to see me drivin' that fancy car, don't it?
Bet you'd rather see me drivin' one of those ester grate ones.
Like the one your daddy drives, wouldn't you?
Let me tell you one thing. That's dead!
About as dead as you'll be if you don't rearrange your brain.
Catch my drift. Turn it up!

the Time's updated lyrics

I took her to my crib and I laid her down
Her body felt kinda right
Maybe I was wrong but what the hell
I figured that was what she liked

I said, "Baby, don't get too comfortable
'Cuz I really like to sleep alone
Leave your number on the table by my data bank
I love you, but you got to go"
"What?"

^ yeahthat N thanks for the lyrics cuz I was lost on sum o them smile. Also, didn't think it was all that awful myself either, those lyrics. I suppose The Time did cuz they slept on the song n changed the lyrics eventually shrug.

I prefer the Time's version, but I can see why many people like the original. It's slower, funkier and the lyrics are hardcore--like something Prince would have recorded himself during the 1999 era. (And looking now at the studio info above, that was indeed the case.)

However, if The Time wanted a top ten single--which they earned with their version of this song--then the original harsh, racial lyrics would have to go. Jam & Lewis (or whomever was really involved) were right to rework the song for radio.

I,too, prefer the Time version. The racially sensitive lyrics on the Mazarati version would have kept the song from getting radio airplay.
