Why don't you look into Duane's past he was a violent and mentally ill person who was not even a blood relative. Why is okay to not tear his character apart? I rember Vanity saying Prince did not do Coke when she was with him. In fact their was a story that they got into over her drug use. If one living person would come forward and say yea I saw him snorting coke and they are willing to be named okay I would say hey we are to something. Estates cannot sue for libel or defamation do people are free to say what they want. Do you hear anyone saying anything? Historically, anyone and everyone, casual associates and close personal friends consistently have stated that he was opposed to drugs and didn't use them. I saw an interview with one of his backup singers (Alicia) on YouTube. She was on tour with him from 2010-2013. She scoffed at drug addiction saying he rarely even drank wine, just maybe some Bailey's in his coffee. She said addiction was not his personality. Once again that just tells me whatever he was doing was recent. I say that because I think it would be damn near impossible for him to hide it for that long. Let's not forget in 2010 and 2011 Sheila E was touring with him as well. Does anyone really believe he could be popping strong painkillers and Sheila wouldn't notice? Even the Piano and Microphone shows...whatever he was taking didn't impact his ability to perform. I've listened to almost all of those shows and his voice was amazing, playing brilliantly and never once did he sound like he was stoned or on anything. Now I've never had to take painkillers other than Advil so I don't know maybe you can take them and function completely normally. But I've heard enough stories from people who have taken them who are completely knocked out. A while back my mom did something to her neck that caused her to be in pain for several weeks. Finally my brother in law gave her medication he was given when he had his kidney removed (he donated it to a family member). I don't know exactly what the painkiller was but my mom took one of them and was basically out for 2 days straight. And we're supposed to believe Prince was popping very strong painkillers and was still able to travel and get up on stage and perform for 2 hours? Something just doesn't add up IMO. None of it makes sense. Even people that are on these pain pills with an Rx have problems with the side effects. How would he have been able to work? I think this issue was recent and I believe it was for some real serious health issues. My understanding is you can hooked on these things in a matter of weeks. | |

That outfit is just wrong! not his most sexy moment I must say | |

Oh dear...I don't usually say this about Prince -- he usually pulls any outfit off -- but this one is just a bad idea for anyone. 'Cause if anyone could pull it off he could. And he didn't. | |

Well, not pulling off an outfit doesn't really rate as a big deal in this life...at least in my opinion. But, no, he doesn't pull this one off. Doubt anyone could. And simple outfits can be as ill-begotten as complicated ones.
He got it right more often than not, even with his silly outfits. Just not this time, IMHO.

So I will say this, "where I'm", I know exactly what we mean by "pimp hand was strong". And I will just leave it at that. Don't worry, I know what you mean and understand it's just a turn of a phrase. I use it often myself to describe "Cat Daddies" of a certain age with ability to pull the ladies as it is colloquially intended, not more not less. Forget about the fact that Prince jokingly used both pimp and gigolo imagery in his songwriting, stage banter and general aesthetics: folks are in a sensitive space and feel compelled to defend his honor, I guess... | |

This was from her FB post after Denise Matthews ie Vanity's memorial service
Still in disbelief we all decided to retire to our hotels to rest. We arranged to meet for dinner. Susan, Brenda and Jill along with our friends and family had dinner in San Francisco. We were also joined by my brother from another mother Questlove who flew in from New York just for the service. This is one of the many reasons why I adore him. For always being so selfless. After dinner we walked the cold streets of Fisherman's Wharf to Ghirardelli Square at midnight. The following day we joined Prince in Oakland. Sitting in front of Prince as he played piano on stage and sang to us was epic. He announced to the audience that we were there. We sang along, cheered him on, had tears, and laughed out loud at his adorable antics while he mesmerized us all. We felt his pain and his love for Denise. We felt his love and joy that we were there with him. The songs took us ladies on a personal journey that we will never forget. We are forever a family and there is a bond between us all that can never be broken. To celebrate Denise's life, to celebrate our reunion, to celebrate our lives and the life of Prince, we all head out to a private gathering. Great time indeed being together. Watching Susan and Jill show Prince photos of their beautiful and talented brood was so cool. The following day everyone either flew or drove home. Jill and I shared quality time on the drive and came to the realization that indeed as Jill wrote so eloquently on her Facebook: “We ladies are THE ORIGINALS.” Vanity 6. Apollonia 6. Jill Jones. Lisa & Wendy. Sheila E. And this also includes original member of Vanity 6 (before Denise Matthews entered the scene), Jaime Shoop, who sang in the group then became Prince's first manager. An honor for us all. Knowing this, I am forever honored to have met Denise Matthews. I am forever honored to have shared so many brilliant moments with my sisters Jill Jones, Brenda Bennett, Susan Moonsie, Sheila E. and Lisa and Wendy. I am forever honored to have shared such success and happiness with Prince. This is why I have woken up a better woman today.

They are the originals, indeed. It was a pretty magical era to be a teen coming up on P's music at this time. These people and the work they were putting out underscored some of the best times of my life! I'm not sure if we'll ever see this level output, creativity, personality, and in the case of the musicians in this bunch, such competency in pop & r&b music again. | |

----- It took one for me and I was glued to my bed as sick as a dog from the side effects. I don't understand how people are seeing him as some super human person who could fuction on these things at his level for years.
I also think by having mis-labled pills may also show he was not as knowledgable about these drugs as the media would have you believe. | |

Age catching up with you and still wanting to accomplish as much work as before might drive a person to seek alternative ways to function. Especially if you are as hard driven as Prince was. | |

THey were the originals - nothing against the ones that came behind but I favor the original because they are part of the legend that is Purple Rain, 1999 tours ( add in the Time too)

Hard to accomplish much when you're dead. Sorry but I don't think Prince decided to start popping incredibly strong painkillers to give him more energy. People I know that have had to use strong painkillers like these...they knock them out and all they want to do is sleep. Paisley Park is in your heart

I agree with you about the talent. I'd add Donna Grantis and Ida Nielson to that list, at least as musicians (they don't qualify as muses or proteges really...seems like he was more of an uncle/mentor for them). The more I listen to them, the more I appreciate how good they really are. The Manchester 2014 show is pretty awesome. I can't tell about Hannah Welton. She keeps up but I feel like Sheila E is a much better drummer. | |
