IDA NIELSEN'S - TURNITUP! Really excited about this upcoming Album, I was fortunate enough to be sent an advance copy for Review and loving it. Ida can really write a catchy chorus too

I love Ida. Her energy. She's always come across as really humble, cool and talented. I'll go see her if she comes to the states. Change it one more time..

It is revealing to me the sacrifices that musicians make for their work. People may think it's non-stop fun but it certainly holds no appeal for me.

Seen her live in Norway a week back. She was a monster on that bass. She plays Larry and Bootsy-like grooves with no problem, and puts her own elegance on top of it. She is imo one of the best bassists when it comes to just playing the groove neccesary for a song, and she can do pretty awesome solos too, even though some of it seems a bit more flashy than actually interresting at times. A helluva bass player, although I'm not sure what I think about her songs. A bit too "available" maybe? A bit too cute maybe? The cool thing though, is that she has managed to merge som kind of Prince, Cat, and Sheila on this. I just kinda feel as if it's missing some badness. The funk is filthy, the funk stank... This doesn't have that grease though. My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah

I like the album. I get the whole it's missing something. To me I feel they should play more as 3rd Eye Girl, possibly one of Prince's best "put together" bands. Hannah has been talking about it and posting about and so has Ida. Both saying they were the funkiest thing out there. Of course it's different without Prince, but I feel the talent is there to hold their own. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I wanna take back some of what I said. The attitude of this album, is like last december said, more in the vein of 3rd Eye Girl. And it should also. That grease, filth, stank I was missing, is not something everyone have in their palette. It just doesn't seem natural to everyone. Kinda like how Justin Timberlake approaches rnb and "soul". It has to mirror your personality and background to some degree, if it's to be taken seriously. That's why I now think it was a clever move for Nielsen to be inspired by Lovesexy, Cat Glover and Sheila E with a modern touch. Of course, these are just a few of her influences. But since she's been working with Prince, and we're on the ORG, I think it's worth mentioning. Alphabet Street is one of her favourite Prince tunes, and when you listen to this album, it does sound like that Prince period has rubbed off a bit on her music. The total package of happyness, a bit over the top production etc. A bit glossy. Kinda like a girls magazine. But funky fresh. I have to give it more spins.
