A pet peeve that I have is when couples break up some of them say he/she is a great person. I'm going, if they were such a great person, why aren't you together?

A former co-worker once told me she bought her ex-husband and his new wife a wedding gift. I said really. She said that he was a great guy. I didn't say anything to her, but I wondered, then why did y'all get divorced. But as time went on, I realized that she was a little nuts and had a drinking problem - so in time, I got my answer. So maybe Mayte is telling us something.

I thought they were a cute couple and i think he adored her. As for Mayte..I can kinda relate. I have had my share of musician boyfriends-I married one-and God they are impossible. Music first. I may be second or third on the list. A little odd, egotisical, needs attention all the time, especially from adoring fans, and I'm not sure Prince was entirely loyal..I mean the man was the VJ whisperer. Mayte was also young and wasn't it her mother who sent a tape of her to Prince? I believe you can fall out of love with your husband but still have love for him. I am divorced from my musician husband..hmmm

I think Mayte was always in love with Prince and maybe still is.
And perhaps vice-versa.

I think a lot of youthful, first marriage drama ensued after the first few years as both people tried to deal with their feelings. It was part of growing for both of them.

Mistakes were made but love and forgiveness is what I feel is left now.

Mayte is a very special spirit.

I have a poster on my wall still of the two of them. The early '90s were really "my" era so I always associate P w/Mayté. It's such a sad story, what w/all the destiny and soul mate talk, and it turns out she must have been one ofc the few people on the planet w/the same defective gene that meant no children of their wouod ever be viable... Not only were they not soul mates but he fell deeply, madly in love w/the one person on the planet he was emphatically, scientifically not meant to be with... Tragic... That is some Shakespearean type shizz right there...

I think Pfeiffer's is not a recessive condition, so it might not have had anything to do with Mayte at all (or it might not have had anything to do with P...but the lack of other children makes me think that's a little less likely)

NurseV--if you could please help me out here.

Genetic disorders can be hereditary or based on a mutation. According to Wikipedia, Pfeiffer Syndrome is associated with mutations on chromosomes 8 or 10. There was a change in a gene--Prince or Mayte didn't pass on a condition. It could have happened to ANY couple (1 in 100,000 births). Basically, it was bad luck.

you're correct. it was a smoke screen. he had essentaially left the marriage in 98. i always wanted to hear mayte's thoughts on larry graham. it seemed to me that prince used his relationship with lg as a wedge between them. to buffer him during his divorce.
