Condensate is the second best Time album imo.

Only bettered by "What Time Is It?".

So many great songs, Role Play, Toast To The Party Girl, Condensate, Cadillac, If I Was Yo Man, Strawberry Lake.... all great tracks. Such a shame Jesse's ego ruined any chances for a proper world tour from the original members.

Sometimes Jesse Johnson really leaves a sour taste in my mouth.... but hey, lets just focus on the great music!!

Agreed. I never understood why it wasn't better received by the fans on here. The Time put out a stellar album for the first time in over 20 years and folks on here are dogging on it!

Take one listen to Toast To The Party Girl and tell me that ain't right up there with The Bird or Cool.

As much as it pains me to say it, but it was rocking out to this album more than to any of Prince's output those last 5 years...that shit was funky!

It was a great album. More songs that I like on it, but I cannot quite put it over the first album because The Stick and Get It Up are just flat out epic funk that has never been duplicated. Condensate proves that group was a lot more than just Morris and Prince.

As good or better than most of Prince's stuff for the last several years. Toast to The Party Girl is really classic Time and I love the musical references it makes to their legacy. It really is a complete jam.

Sick is also amazing. About half of the album is spectacular.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Its a great album but I still think What Time Is It? and Pandamonium are their best 2 albums.

Its ironic this thread is here as I have been listening to this album the
past week and I actually revisited the DVD last night for the first time
since I bought the cd 5 years ago and it's probably the best music documentary
put together. Morris was hilarious and I know he must have said shit about
15 times. Such a great album and yes it ranks right up there with the first two
Time albums. Condensate made it feel like 1982 all over again.
And yaess! Morris is still cool!

I agree. Condensate coupled with The Family (aka fDeluxe)'s release of Gaslight around the same time were two incredible albums from an associate. We know all these guys are talented as hell, but when they set up to work together, with no Prince input at all and still slay it - shiiiit. Game over!

"Strawberry Lake" harkens back to Sly and the Family Stone a lot. I won't go through all the songs, but needless to say, it's very much The Time. It's true to who they were then, and who they are now. Condensate and Gaslight are Prince folk - GROWN.

Jesse didn't have an ego. It was that there was no real money in the project. He also said he didn't see eye to eye on things with the band, and it was better to leave while they're still friends. He did update his FB to reflect certain songs that he was strongly against.

___________________________

"PANDEMONIUM"

I wrote and recorded the music for the following compositions at my personal studio in Minneapolis named Jungle Love Studio:
"Blondie" & "The Skillet": (Neither song carried those titles but were later named those by FT) I would never pen a lyric like Blondie, because even at that time, I found it very derogatory and demeaning. But of course being the only one that felt that way, I'm always within that band labeled difficult.

THE O7ven:

Once again music recorded at my private spot, but later lyrics and titles I didn't agree with and YES, I passionately made my feelings known.

AYDKMK- Couldn't relate at this stage of the game.
SICK: Still don't quite know what the h*** that means! cause if it feels that good to me! I'm sure not going to be thinking of something so beautiful as $hit!
LIFE STYLE: I've never been rich enough for anyone to want me for $ sorry! There have been a few times in my life that I've almost been with physically beautiful women cause she had looks + $, but they we're mean and so forth that I ran like they were on fire. Why? I believe wholeheartedly in Karma! You get what you take, sometimes it's better to receive.
ROLEPLAY: I honestly don't remember what that was about...I don't...

___________________________

He did the album, and a few appearances, but to keep going as-is wasn't feasible. These guys have to make a living, somehow. And that wasn't going to sustain some of the folks. Jimmy & Terry wouldn't have stayed around that long either, probably. Even at this point, The Time is a shell of themselves. No Jerome, Jesse, Jimmy, or Terry. That's half of everyone already. Morris, Jellybean, and Monte are the only original members. I don't even know who is on bass these days. Is Chance back on keyboards?

Jesse has always been that tortured soul in the band anyway, so if anyone really thought he was going to stick around doesn't know The Time at all.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Just the occasional TV appeaance wasn't gonna cut it!!!! Since 87/88, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were PROMISING Us a FULL-TIME reunion!!!! Don't believe Me?? Go back 2 the "Video Soul In Minneapolis" special on BET!!! I was fortunate enough 2 see the OG 7ven reunion in MPLS on 11/5/2011@ State Theater. Jam & Lewis didn't wanna tour, and Morris WASN"T giving up "Part-Time" (because He's in TOTAL control of the situation, not 6 others). So Jesse bounced!!! Been around the World thriceover w/. Jam & Lewis got that "Janet Money", and Morris still has "Part-Time". I DO WISH that the Fellas can get 2gether "One Mo' Time" in honor of Prince & call the Album JUST THAT: "One Mo' Time (In Loving Memory & Honor Of Prince Rogers Nelson)". THAT"S WHAT TIME IT IS!!!!! YESSSSSSSS!!!!!

I love all The Time albums for different reasons though, so I have a hard time saying which is best.

The real question, for me, is did Prince get around to recording that new album with Morris he claimed was in the works since last summer? I don't believe he ever made it back to the studio with Morris, but instead crossed that off his bucket list by having MD and The Time perform at Paisley.

The DVD was exclusive to the CD sold at Best Buy. It wasn't sold anywhere else. I think it might have been sold only in the stores, I don't know if it was sold on the Best Buy website. It's similar to Target or Barnes & Noble versions of albums having extra songs on it.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I don't think fans were looking for a full fledged 30 city tour but it would have been nice

to do a little more promotion for the album and maybe 1 date a month and probably a

10 city tour during the spring/summer months. Ironically Jimmy Jam was promising future

music. For me I just wanted to see the guys write and end their story their way. Condensate

was a start.

The special edition is going for insane prices on Amazon and eBay. Not spending that kinda money just for a DVD when I already own the album. Hopefully someone will upload it into Youtube eventually.

I agree, love this album. Super funky and better than I ever imagined it would be. One of the best funk albums of this decade (of course not a lot of competition, but still it highly enjoyable from beginning to end).

If you've got funk, you've got style.
