Chaka Khan Enters Rehab With Her Sister to Combat Opioid Addiction

photo 133539704.jpg
Chaka Khan, 63, announced Sunday that she and her sister, singer Taka Boom, will enter a rehabilitation program for prescription drug dependence.

In a statement, Khan said the death of her friend and musical collaborator, Prince, helped spur the decision. She is addicted to Fentanyl, the highly-addictive, opioid painkiller to which Prince succumbed.

"The tragic death of Prince has had us both rethinking and reevaluating our lives and priorities. We knew it was time to take action to save our lives. My sister and I would like to thank everyone for their support, love and prayers," the statement explains.

VERY close. It doesn't matter how often they saw or spoke to each other. They clearly LOVED each other, as she said in her statement on the day of his passing, wherein she called him her "brother." No doubt, this is a devastating loss for her. And, if she is like most of us here, who didn't even know him personally, she must be having a very, very difficult time absorbing this epic blow. Here's her tribute posted on twitter:

Chaka Khan-April 21, 2016

I LOVED him, the world LOVED him. Now he's at peace with his Father. Rest in power, , my brother.

I meant how frequently did they see or speak to each other in recent years (people do float crazy ideas). Anyway she released a statement saying Prince's death was a wake up call. Glad to see she's getting the help she needs. http://bigstory.ap.org/ar...tion-drugs

I understand; however, I don't know how often they were in contact, but I do know several of his friends have said that they would sometimes go months without contact, and then he would pop back in, and they would resume their friendship, like it was yesterday. Lastly, are there "crazy ideas" being "floated" with regard to Chaka's trip to rehab?

And/or dying terrig. Apparently, fentanyl is hitting the streets hard.

Hooked: One Family’s Or...h Fentanyl

Unlike heroin, which requires large swaths of land for poppy production, fentanyl is the product of simple chemistry. U.S. officials believe much of the supply comes from illegal labs in Mexico, meaning there is no need for prescribing doctors, the enablers of an earlier generation of American pain-pill abuse. Some buyers have even ordered fentanyl, or close imitations of it, through the mail from factories in China.

Fentanyl is a reason why deadly overdoses from painkillers continue to climb in the U.S., reaching a record 18,893 in 2014, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. Fentanyl-related fatalities are soaring in many parts of New England, the Midwest and the South. In 12 states racked by the crisis, including New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Ohio, more than 5,500 people died of fentanyl-related overdoses between 2013 and 2015, according to data compiled by The Wall Street Journal. The figure likely is higher because only partial numbers are available for some years.

It's says she and her sister both checked into rehab together for fentanyl addiction. Could they both have been suffering such extreme pain that they had to use this drug? People use this drug to get some type of euphoria which makes me question why Prince was actually using fenatayl. Most people assume he was in pain, but no one with first hand knowledge has ever confirmed this fact. Maybe he was using it recreationally. I've seen numerous documentaries on this drug and many users are not people suffering from pain.

i don't really understand how some people get addicted to some things. I took codeine before prince died but never was hooked and haven't really missed them since. I guess everyone is different. Now, i wish i could cut down on the junkfood.

Oh dear. I saw a newspaper article (about 5/6 yrs back) that listed the prescribed medications he was on. It was a long list, if accurate it was shocking.

Meth devastated my hometown and the areas surrounding it, especially in rural areas. I was shocked when I went back to the Midwest after my Mom died and saw all the negative changes. The countryside where people used to leave doors unlocked was no longer safe. The house my great grandparents built had been turned into a meth lab. eek mad And now this...

Based on what I've read about this drug, I just don't see how P continued to produce at such a high level. Wouldn't he have been nodding and sleeping all the time? Instead, he reportedly almost never slept. If I had to guess, I'd say that fentanyl was new to him.

that's what i don't get, drugs might help you write a few songs but eventually it'll screw you up. that's what I just don't get about the whole thing. Prince was so productive consistently. I don't get any of it. if he had cancer i hope someone comes out and tells it, it'll be so much more understandable. Prince was always so smart that i never saw him going out like that. it'll be a mystery for awhile, we don't have the whole story. give it time and people will begin to talk more and more.
