Prince: His faith in God really struck a nerve. And you know how you can just feel that something’s gonna work and it feels right, it’s a good fit? I knew the band was going to work, I knew the relationship with him was gonna work. I check people out now to see how faith-based they are and how real they are about it. That goes a long way, I gotta tell you. Because I can trust them. I can give him the key and don’t have to worry. Interesting comment. Makes me wonder then if later in P's career believing in God was a requirement for working with him? Or at lest he actively sought out people who were faith-based? Paisley Park is in your heart

Reportedly, Morris Hayes left the band at one point, partially "because of the religion thing". He told a previous band member (from pre-JW time) that's why he left.  He returned after that for a while, so I don't know if he converted, fake-converted, or Prince just needed a good keyboardist again.
I've always (safely?) assumed that Prince wants everyone around him to believe just like him, because in his eyes it's the only way. It's quite a narrow view, and balks at his huge stance on diversity from years prior. I would imagine some of those NPG converts will step away from the JW crap as this year rolls on. Just a thought.
Sidenote: Now that I think about it, I think he had a long stint with Prince than Fink did, all years accumulated. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

He also said he came out of the church playing music so I doubt being a Christian was the issue but some of the things JWs believe are not a part of traditional Christiany. I also wonder how Prince justified his JW beliefs, scrapping everything else he'd ever believed, and still blended astrology and mysticism - practices which are pointedly not Christian. Even chalking it up to "the gemini in me" is against JW, and Christian, beliefs. Weird.

--- He took what he wanted from the JWs and mixed it up to suit his lifestyle. He did the same thing with traditional Christianity. He really thought God was the " booty" in the sky!!! I would like to think he modified this as he got older or just wised up and stopped writing about it. |

Well I am curious then how P got along so well with Josh and Hannah since they were devout Christians but not JW. Who knows maybe Josh was converting P. Paisley Park is in your heart
