Really fascinating interview with the Spirit Child

Cool article. I can relate to how she valued being a mother and the joy it brings you. It opened up a whole new world for me. But it is cool now that she is rediscovering her passions now that her family doesn't need as much of her, and sounds like she is exploring her creative side. I respect that a lot. It is very interesting how she gave up her music career for wife/motherhood/family. A lot of women have to make tough choices like that and I respect her a great deal. I liked her CD also. She was always one of the more interesting artists Prince worked with.

I think you've made a number of great points. Ingrid's May 19th Album sounded quite different to other artist Prince had worked with, posibly because she is a Poet but also because Prince's involvement was fairly limited compared to other projects.

I also agree regarding the choices women often have to make. Sometime, it seems, women almost have to feel self-deprecating when they pause their careers for their children, despite it being one of the most rewarding and important roles you can play. That said, I am so glad she is back to enjoying her creativity and producing some great tracks like her recent Prince tribute song You Gave Me Wings.

I didn't know about her tribute song! I have to go check it out, I hope it is on Youtube.

Yes I thought a spoken word album to music, was a very pioneering thing to do, especially at the time. I read that Prince was so wrapped up in other prodjects that he couldn't devote the time to Ingrid's prodject, she got impatient and started working with another PP employee and I guess Prince hit the roof and they had a big blowout. I actually applaude her bravery to take control of her own prodject although I'm sure she knew that is not what most Prince Protegees did.

I'm sure she saw the behind the scenes sacrifices that are required for a career in music and maybe thought "Is this really for me? Would this all be worth it?" And decided to make different choices. I'm sure she knew at the time that making the choice of family over career was something she could never come back from but she seems happy and I hope she has no regrets. However, it is cool she is revisiting her art nowadays and I bet she is ok with never having become a music superstar.
