Well, of course. These are real musicians. They communicate via music and what better way to honour the most celebrated and dedicated musican of our time?

That doen't look like Sheila E. Why do I feel a certain way about her now? Is she trying to turn a buck at the memory of Prince? I get she is a musician and she would want to put her Prince inspired music out, so why do I have a side eye on her?

Yes it does look like her.

feeling a certain way about someone, is not factual about the person, but a reflection of your 'feelings' which need to be sorted out with facts. We judge people wrongly when we react with a feeling.

Sheila E is not some new unrelated musician to Prince. When would be an appropriate time to do a song in memory of Prince? next year? tomorrow isn't promised to anyone. She also is 58.

Exactly. And what buck is there to cash in with these days? How many copies of that song do you really think she's going to sell and make even enough to pay a light bill with? That's no reflection on her or the song, it's a reflection on how people download, listen, and consume music. So this whole "that was fast" or "she's cashing" bullshit needs to stop.

Y'all were asking "anyone heard from _____?" or "why hasn't ______ said anything???" for weeks, now when someone does something, y'all are up on them like white on rice. It's hypocritical. Hell, if I'd wanna hear from anyone in song, it'd be Sheila, or The Family, or one of those really close to him.
I heard that interview with Dionne Faris and she was just rambling, like she really knew him, and ended up making some EP about him in a few weeks after his death, yet admitted she'd never made music with him ever. You wanna know who's cashing in? It ain't Sheila E.

Yeah people act like they are looking out for Prince.
No one even Prince makes money off of music like that anymore.

I hope she does more music that fits the Minneapolis Sound, music that takes us forward to what we heard on the Glamorous Life Romance 1600 Sheila E. I love how the Family did that.

People are attacking anyone from that 1978-1987 period and it makes no sense. Those are the only people I want 2 hear from. Would be cool if Joni Mitchell could do something in memory of Prince though.

Can't have it both ways. Can't say the protégée acts generously received support from Prince/he owes them nothing/they must swim on their own.
Then give them grief for doing so.
Sounds like Sheila's doing her same "Sister Fate" shtick like back in the day...

If people were looking out for Prince, they'd not download or trade bootlegs, etc. Again, it's all hypocritical. We're all protective of Prince, but we're also just fans on the outside, doing what fans do - absorbing as much as we can because we love him. No one said boo when she put on a head scarf, dabbed on a beard with eye make up, and danced to a Linn-1 drum track when the Saints were going to the superbowl. The drum track straight up sounded like something Prince did. Everyone thought it was cool then, when he was alive. rolleyes

Joni's still in bad shape, isn't she? But, it'd be cool if she re-recorded "A Case Of U", using elements of his ONA arrangement.

Right, buy that stuff, and not the bootlegs

That's right, everyone loved that hot Linn response 2 Prince's Purple & Gold lol I think the Family did one too, but I never heard it.

Sheila E has been doing Koo Koo A Love Bizarre Erotic City the Belle of St Mark Olivers House the Glamorous Life even has done Pop Life & America in her live shows in the last 5yrs Everyone loves it

And I hope she does more. She is also consistent in working with/doing shows with people from that camp I love. She had the Family open a few shows with her, she's recently had a double show with the Time. She has always done live stuff with with Wendy & Lisa, had BrownMark on bass on a fw of her shows, did double shows with Dr Fink and his group. And when Bobby Z had his heart issue she jumped on a plain and went to Minniapolis to see him, as well as reached out to Brenda Susan Moonsie Apollonia & Jill at the time of Vanity's death.

She's always carried Paisley Park community in her heart.

Joni is better, Prince talked about her health issues last year how sad it was making him. Yeah and do something from Parade.

I'm convinced that a lot a people in the group loves to hate on Sheila and personally I don't understand why. This being engaged to Prince is not something new. Some of you act like she came up with this recently. Heck, Arsenio asked her about this in 1991 I think. So apparently he even knew they were engaged. I'm going to buy the music because I think she's one of the people that knew him best. I know she said she spoke with him about 8 months before this nightmare happened but she also said she called to check on him when she heard about the plane incident. Prince and Sheila stopped speaking quite often for whatever reason but it never lasted just like it wouldn't have lasted this time has this awful nightmare not happened. Yes, I refer to it as a nightmare because I'm still waiting to wake up. I don't think she is trying to profit off of Prince. Some of you may not want to believe this but Prince loved Sheila and she loved him. I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate y'all speaking negatively about her. As for her being in the media, do you think she contacted these people? I guarantee you that they were the ones hounding her. So can we please stop the hate!!!

I don't see any haters. A hater is someone who cannot be happy for another person's sucess. So how is questioning whether or not a person was engaged to Prince equated with being a hater? rolleyes

In the interview with Ebony magazine Prince even stated that most of the stuff out there was false. He even went so far as to say that he wouldn't give some people the time of day for some of the stuff they have said about him. So please give us a break about what he would say about the "negative" comments being made about Ms. Escovedo. rolleyes

hating, bashing, putdowns, jealousy, pettiness...whatever you want to call it, she still doesn't deserve it..Their relationship had it's up and downs (like we've all experienced in life with loved ones) but she knew him personally and they were close (engagement or not). Some are making a big deal because she wants to "jump on the bandwagon". All I see her doing is paying honor and tribute to her friend (that we all loved).

Right, and at the same time she has been profiting off her time with Prince and I love her for it. When she joined back up with Eddie M and they started doing Erotic Cit and music from her 1st 3 albums, I said go on badder than the wicked witch.

I hope she does more for her albums and does some Prince album cuts.

I want them to profit from their time with Prince because then we profit. I can't wait 2 C more and hear more from Sheila E/Eddie M and the rest

“It just wasn’t the music I wanted out right now,” she continues. “It’s not how I’m feeling; everything has changed. So a couple of weeks ago, I decided to write a whole new album. And it feels right.”

Named after the lead single, the album will drop later this year through her Stiletto Flats label, and mark her first solo project since 2013’s “Sheila E.: Icon.” According to Billboard, it’ll include uptempo tracks and ballads influenced in some ways by her relationship with Prince, and “driven by the sense of loss that so many are feeling.”

Regarding BET’s Prince tribute, which also features the Roots, D’Angelo and Janelle Monae, Sheila E. says it’s been difficult.

“I wasn’t sure I could do it even though I said yes,” she explains. “In the first conversations about it, I couldn’t even say his name. And when I started putting the music together, it was hard for me to listen to anything. It’s actually been a part of my healing now, trying to figure out what I was going to play and what would be okay to make sure I would get through it. But it’s going to be fun.”

She's the one who put it out there in her book. So, since she put her business out there in the street then people are going to call her on it. That's not hating, bashing, putdowns, jealousy or pettiness.

My comment about the fiance being funny wasn't toward Sheila E but how the news labels women connected to Prince. That fiance thing was so short, compared to her musical relationship with Prince.

I do believe Prince proposed to her. Her father said according to what he knew they were too.
In Prince's utopian way, I do believe he asked her.

Now if Prince was fliety about it, 'he did use 'marriage' a lot in his songs. and committment. And he lived his life out on the stage, videos, studio so for him to ask her to marry him the way she said he did, is not far fetched.

I just realized why I had funny feelings about Sheila E. It has to do with her Unsung and how I really didn't like it much and felt tha she was trying to spice it up by talking about her relationship with Prince. Then I remebered by the time Sheila E. did Unsung there were into more Flash and less substance. They did a program on the OJays to focus on Gerald Levert's death and Eddie's response.

That still doesn't look like Sheila E to me maybe its the smile or full face or my side eye??? sigh

Thank You Prince
