3rdEye Girl Tribute

The more that I think about it, the more I would like to see 3rdEyeGirl just do some instrumental stuff like Plectrum Electrum and other instrumentals as a tribute. No singing. Almost like a missing man formation. Maybe they can play some unreleased stuff that he had planned to release with them. Their lead singer is gone, but that was basically his last band before he passed away and they are the ones that are in the best position to play his stuff the way he would have wanted it. For me, that would be the best tribute and the one I would be most interested in seeing.

3rdEyeGirl, The Revolution, the NPG (in any form), they all have the same problem: they're bodies without a head. Just like the JBs without James Brown (and I saw them live, big letdown.)

And that could potentially be Sheila e's role. i know a lot of people still look @ her as a prince girl. but she's so accomplished in her own right. she's done music direction before. I keep saying this to people, the Brit awards did bowie right. They had his band play and lorde sang. something similar could occur with the Prince tribute. Have Sheila e. direct and maybe bring in someone to produce quality visuals and just let the band jam out with a few people singing his songs.

I think 3rdEyeGirl is different. They were his most recent band and had worked with him recently. It will be very hard for the old NPG or Revolution to give us something that was anything more than a tribute band type of performance, which will be great. But 3rdEyeGirl is different. To me, hearing them play Plectrum Electrum or them doing an instrumental of Bambi would be great. Even better, perhaps his voice can be played over the band. I would actually be fine with that.

I liked them. They had an identity and I loved their identity. Sometimes Prince pushed them beyond that identity, but they were a good band. I can't blame them or Prince for pushing the envelope in the studio and in performances with them. I just think that there is a small window for us to get one last snapshot of current Prince and they are the only link to that window. I'll enjoy watching someone like Esperanza Spalding or Sheila E and the Revolution doing their tributes, but 3rdEyeGirl will be a bit special to me if they do it right.

I'd love to see ALL of the former band members(minus Game Boyz) + side bands (The Time,Family,Jill Jones, etc.) with legends he admired(Carlos Santana,Larry G.,Chaka,Patti,Mavis, Stevie...Nile R.) and the current(good) artists he gave thumbs up too(Janelle,Esperanza,Lalah H.,Ledisi, Angie Stone,D'Angelo...) in one huge awesome tribute. And I want them to play like they've never played in their lives.

Prince was the leader, the glue, the momentum, and the star of all of his projects.

To hear 3EG without Prince? No thanks. There's a lot of their album that I don't like and that's WITH Prince.

You know, I'm listening to Batdance right now and it would be nice to have some kind of dance sequence incorporated into a tribute. Get some of Prince's previous featured dancers (Misty Copeland, Mayte, the Twinz, etc...) and maybe mix them in with pro dancers and current stars that are known for their dancing.

The more I think about it, the more I don't want old bands to reform to play Prince-less instrumentals that would be depressingly sad, not even as a tribute.

I like idea of a "3rd Eye Girl" meaning an all female band with a new female lead singer.. I just dont think it will work though..

Thinks about Glam Slam Ulyssess and NPG Dance company...gets frightened... lol

Part of me wants them just to make the greatest montage of live footage ever and show that instead...idk. I hate having this tribute conversation in general. Pushes me right out of denial and back to acceptance.

Having members of his most recent bands back other singers for a tribute show would be the best idea, imo.
At least they know how he'd arrange the songs and expect things to be done.

Enough tributes already... talk to the hand It's time for me to put the Prince concerts back on again... No one can ever fill his dainty high heeled boots.

LOL. I still have to sit down and finally watch Glam Slam Ulyssess. But, I digress. Lol. I think a dance tribute could be cool if they take elements of stagings that he's previously done.

The pre-produced montage is honestly what Billboard should have done considering how soon the show was.

Oh you know it's coming. Not any time SOON, but somewhere in our kid's kid's future, will be a broadway version of Purple Rain. It's frighteningly invetible.

I'd like to hear the second album they were working on.

I'd also LOVE to hear more of their rehersal tapes.

Josh should only be called on if he's asked to represent what he worked on. They've probably worked on a lot of music that's in there.....It would be tough watching 3RD EYE GIRL without P being in the front. Even though he joked that he was just "a part of the band", it was still his group and he was the focal point. The only two artists that that could fill the frontman void (to me) would be TTD or Lenny.

I've been in love with rehearsals lately. We need a rehearsal thread. I want ALL THE REHEARSALS. I'm a nerd that loves rehearsing anyway though, I love how detailed P was with certain elements. Plus I just like hearing him correct things( I talked about that in the "bad show" thread). I'll be thinking someone isn't playing a part right and then I'll hear him fix it. I listened to a rehearsal for "Screams of Passion(pre-Clare F.)" and cried...because I'm a sap and that's one of my favorite songs... sad

Yeah. I've been rehersal hunting lately. They're sometimes uneventful, but often offer an insight.

A happy jam session would be great.
I feel that would be the best tribute to Prince from his friends who were artist; with pieces of his songs within it.
It's coming. Someone will do it eventually I think.

I like Third Eye Girl. In fact I can't stop listening to this:
