TrevorAyer said: The music industry and this country in general are completely and deeply racist Madonna is the only whore from the 80's left to trot out for the executives ... She has never had anymore talent than brittany spears Pop music is garbage for 6 year olds ... Prince was special in the pop sphere ... But only because he made the white boys money ... Not because his music was good Thats why they don't bother with a respectable tribute ... They really could not give a shit about the music or the man I agree. This post deserves an applause. They only picked Madonna for the ratings. It would have been better if they chose members of his former bands and recent close friends instead, to do a tribute for Prince on that show.

Before he passed she was attacking Prince in her biography and telling the press he left her 'penniless'. She also made various derogatory remarks on twitter including an accusation that Prince's Superbowl performance was pre-recorded ('Was it live or was it memorex?'). Shelia publically stated that all the vault music should be 'destroyed' snd yet I still see people here and on fb nominating her as the best person to protect the vault and Prince's legacy. Completely agree. And the idiots saying that Billboard chose Madonna over other related acts because she's white, need to stop being so paranoid. Madonna was chosen because she was one of the 1980s holy trinity of pop superstars. It's as simple as that. Sheila E. needs to shut up too.

This person get's it.
The average person has no idea who Chaka Khan or Sheila E is. Madonna was a pop contemporary of Prince and is still a household name. Everyone and their dog knows who she is. Hence why she was chosen. Not because she's white and they're trying to keep the poor black man down. Jesus Christ, some of you need to get a clue and stop playing the victim.

Any type of tribute now by whoever is a good thing - with all the bitching it will stop others from doing things because that is the way folks are especially in the USA.....I've spent large amounts of time in the Philippines been in many places they know who John Cena is - they know NBA Basketball, and they know who Lady Gaga, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson are yet no clue who Prince is/ was.....I've spent a lot of time showing folks things in the Philippines about Prince.........ANY Visibility is good....I'm no Madonna fan but if she is WILLING AND ABLE to do a tribute so be it.....no matter how she does it now people will find something to bitch about.......Unreal.....the overall goal is to show folks what Prince could do & The Music......Elvis Presley still making $$$$....just about 40 years after his death...his music still rolls along.....someone like Mr. Hayes putting together Prince CD's would be a good thing......that DJ in Conneticut Joe Kelley would be a good starting place for a 2 hour National Radio WEEKLY Prince show.....they have been doing it for Elvis for years...in Philadelphia 2 hours every Sunday Morning.......stop with the bitching and figure out ways to get VISIBILITY....anything is better than nothing.

Isn't Madonna over exposed anyway? Isn't Sheila E. and Chaka Khan a better choice in the sense that they have worked and knew P the longest? Wouldn't it be better to be exposed to real musicians as P. always aspired to be surrounded by this and being a true testament of his legacy? It isn't a matter of black or white but what P. would have wanted. We can only deduce by his past actions; who he played with etc.

Since Prince invited Madonna to Paisley Park and partied with her while she was in Minneapolis, I´d guess that they were a bit closer again , at least on a friendship level, and most of you know that they´ve always had some kind of special relationship since 1985, so I don´t understand all this anti-Madonna hysteria. Should other folks be there too? Like Chaka and Sheila? Sure. But then most of the people who worked with him should be there, including Lisa and Wendy, the 1995 NPG, loyal people like Morris Hayes....and the list goes on . -
But it´s a Billboard tribute and we all know that they think in commercial terms. The main thing for me is how Prince would feel about this, and how he felt about all the individuals we are talking about here on this thread, and from what we´ve seen it seems like he´d be very happy with Madonna being part of a tribute. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Spot on. One of the greatest musicians in the business and his tribute will come from a hack, while those who could do a great job get benched. "Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced." - James Baldwin

The final choice would have rested with the show's producers. So unless she put a gun to someone's head, she was chosen. Whether or not she offered her candidacy to be chosen is a moot point. And Madonna dedicated a song to Prince as a tribute, just six months prior to his passing. She's not jumping on his funeral procession, like many others appear to bE... http://blog.thecurrent.or...lgia-trip/ And if it was that easy for Madonna to bogart her way onto the show, what was stopping others from doing the same?

Part of a tribute, I don't mind. It's like some wizened old auntie one would otherwise prefer to avoid saying a few words at a funeral: I can suffer it as she is a part of the story. But if she's the sole act involved, that's going to be a real downer, I think. She's a best an average singer, with no other musical talents to speak of, so hearing her trying to carry off Prince's music without assists from those who are more in tune with his talent will be pretty annoying. And if it's going to be her 'emoting' her way through Purple Rain, I think I'll spend the evening on the phone, hearing Auntie Vera moan about her bunions. Y'know, I can sort of grasp it if it's part of some kind of payback by a disgruntled fan, i.e. "Here, to honour the man who brought us albums by Carmen Electra, Mayte, and Bria Valente, as well as the Mavis Staples rap track we'd long hoped for....it's Madonna!!" Apparently you didn't read the book because she was not attacking Prince. Everyone is making her book about Prince and it wasn't. Also, apparently he had no problem with what she said about his super bowl performance (I don't know what she said) because she was on the Welcome 2 Tour and that was after his super bowl performance. Bottom line is Prince loved Sheila E! Prince and Shelia E fell out on the Welcome 2 Tour. There is no evidence they ever reconciled. Shelia made the negative comments after.

She never returned to Paisley Park until the day he died. I'm not denigrating her music with our without Prince. She was obviously part of his history, both personally and artistically... But she has acted very strangely since Prince's passing. Everything she says seems contrived, self-serving, and disingenuous.

Not everyone is Madonna, don't act like anyone could convince Billboard to get their way. Prince had that ability to get what he wanted. She does as well. Few of the people closest to him that would have been better musical choices to tribute him have that type of clout. And no one thought that Madonna would jump to this opportunity that aggressively either. Change it one more time..

Sad for Madonna my ass. Billboard organizers recently said that SHE was the one who contacted them saying she wanted to be the one to do the tribute (not surprised since she loves attention). So whatever pressure she has is on her since she was the one begging to do this.
She'll make this all about her just like she made her speech at the VMA's after MJ died all about her.
