On Hollywood exes (in between bouts of shrieking between the women), Mayte was clearly stating that she did not receive alimony from Prince and was struggling financially to support her adopted daughter. Possibly this is why she was doing this show. It seemed to me like she has never really recovered from the loss of her birth children (unsurprisingly) or Prince, she still had clothes of his and stacks of wedding china. I think eventually she sold these, according to the show in an attempt to move on, or possibly she genuinly needed money. She seems to be a passionate and very caring lady, and at that time seemed quite desperate to meet a life partner and try for more children. I think she is getting work in films now, so maybe she is moving on.
I don't think Mayte would ever have wished Prince any ill and even though she might need the money, I don't see her suddenly trying to grab her share now, although of course I could be wrong. She seems to have been open in her sadness about his death etc. Their marriage was a tragedy for both, it is so very sad.
I don't know about Mani - during the time he was married to her I wasn't following him that closely for a few years, but I get the feeling she was a bit of an opportunist?
I watched that show a few times, and although Mayte may have not wished Prince any ill, I can't say the same for her mother, because she didn't like him, and spat on the floor when she said his name, saying what an awful person he was. |

If they weren't receiving alimony, that's not to say that one or both of them didn't receive cash in a non-disclosure agreement (e.g. so no tell-all books would be written). |

I thought Mayte got the house in Spain. She ended up living in the LA area in recent years living with her mom. She doesn't exactly seem to be living too wealthy. Plus running an animal shelter is not a profitable business I would imagine. Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird. |

The last listing price i heard from that house was about 2 million. I dont think mayte is living with her mother cause she is broke but rather cause her mom might need looking after. You are supposed to look after your parents when they turn old age, its the right thing to do. Animal shelters can be profitable sometimes but i thought Mayte was running a non-profit one. You really gotta admire the woman though, it takes a pretty strong chick to run a business while chasing around a toddler while looking after a senior citizen. I hope some good luck comes to mayte soon, she deserves it. |

THIS! I always felt like Mayte processed her grief in stillness, while P channelled his in work, work, and more work. They "missed" each other because they processed the loss differently and lost each other in the end. |

Why the hell would he do that though?
Loyalty or guilt. You have to remember that Prince and Mayte were together for like 10 years when they finally split. Mayte was Prince's friend first before they got into a relationship and even for a short period afterwards. Prince and Mayte split for a lot of reasons(some that were sadly beyond their control) but that does not mean he did not love or care about her. You are supposed to look after the people that stood by you during your worst time and who was standing by Prince's side during the WB mess, Miss Mayte Garcia. Mayte has her faults(i.e that dumb fucking hollywood exes show) but she has always been there for him. Mayte does not trash Prince 98 percent of the time in interviews or on tv in general and she has had every opportunity to do so and that shows loyalty. Loyalty and a strong sense of character. Hell, Mayte is distraught and saddened over a man who broke her heart and divorced her like 20 years ago and that shows her character. When you divorce an ex, you usually want that asshole to suffer and get his just rewards but not mayte. Its no secret that if their kids had lived, Prince and Mayte might have still been together now and celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary which just passed. Prince was not as dumb as the world perceived him to be and he probably slid Mayte a few bucks now and then cause it was the right thing to do. Screw the legal thing to do, it would have been the moral and right thing to do. You can break apart but the loyalty and the love stays forever....no erasing that. Now as for the rebound marriage aka Manuela, Prince didnt have to give her shit. Maybe a big divorce settlement but not no alimony unless she asked for it which seems unlikely. Mani had a business selling knockoff teabags or some shit like that and she was saving 3rd world orphans from ritual sacrifice or whatever the hell she does. Plus Mani is married to Eric Benet who does not exactly have "purple rain" money but is not soup kitchen poor. The only reason for Prince to have Manuela anything is if she was blackmailing him or had something damaging on him.
Good post-this whole story is just sad. I think Prince was in a dark place/bad things happening and that allowed Mani to work her way into their problems. Not judging anyone, but I always felt like Mani did not have Prince's best interest at heart Not to mention she married a sex addict Prince wannabe in Eric Benet Just triflin. Prince has been dead since October 1996 in theory but only physically as of recently. I never lost a child but i am grieving a parent and I know that when you lose someone that important, you die a little bit too. In prince's case, he died the moment that gregory did. All those dreams and aspirations that a parent has for a child were suddenly diminished and it ruined Prince. Gregory never had a chance because not that many people know about pffeifers syndrome cause it is so rare and they didnt have the technology in 1996 to detect extremely severe birth defects as they do right now. There are tests done now that ob/gyns do which can detect things like downs syndrome in the first trimester so it is more advanced. Prince and Mayte were doomed as parents from the start and that is sad. I do not know when the second miscarriage happened but that only killed Prince's soul more. I think losing those babies made Prince question his belief in god because we all wonder why stillbirths and miscarriages happen and if there is a loving god, why would he take such tiny souls early on? Its a mystery. I believe that Prince turned to JW to escape his grief and to try to find some sort of a biblical answer for what happened to his kids but once the grief began to subside after a few years, he wanted out of that religion but it was too late cause he was in too deep. The damage had already been done. P's albums were not selling that good. The media had basically labeled Prince a nut cause he was always sprouting about JW shit and chemtrails and conspiracy theories and nobody wanted to hear that. Mayte had moved on with her life and found happiness with others and in her work and so a reconcilation was not going to happen although i believe they did try to reunite once after the divorce from manuela. Mani never had Prince's best interest at heart or she would have told him to work it out with his wife and fight for his marriage instead of insinuating herself into it and only caring about being the next Mrs.Nelson. The sad thing about it is Mani never realized every prince album released after he married her has at least one song about mayte on it. Prince always loved Mayte but when you lose something as precious as a baby or even 2 babies, that can destroy a marriage. There is no coming back from it. I dont believe for 2 seconds that Mani had plans to build a school named after Prince in sudan or uganda until the moment that he died. Mani was just expected to make a statement cause she was prince's ex wife and that bullshit was probably the first thing that came to mind. Apparently Mani had not talked to prince in years and now suddenly she cares for him, no that is wanting your 15 minutes of fame again. What songs did Prince write for each of his wives? I know Most Beautiful girl in the world and call my name, I'm curious what they were. |

How attached can you get to a baby in one week? It's not like he lost a 2 year old. I'm not saying he didn't care and of course it was painful, but human physiology dictates that kind of bonding takes a lot more time. |

I'd say that this response is pretty heartless, but I guess that's what you can expect in a thread where the OP is wondering about other folks private lives.
Sometimes I think the TMZ and National Enquirer have registered users on this website that ask crazy questions hoping to get a scoop and then post it on their websites -- which then (in full circle) gets posted on this website.
It would be funny if it wasn't so pitiful.

Alimony isn't always decided by the courts. My grandfather electively laid my grandmother alimony until she died - 35 years after their divorce. He could have been paying them something all these years, but it wouldn't have likely been a court ordered payment.
Why the hell would he do that though?
I've heard of that many times particularly with generation of folks who are ten years left this world. they felt they'd wasted part of the womans life or some such thing, that men had more capacity for work and all that. specific window of time for that attitude because it wasn't too long ago that divorce was a taboo in lots of circles ** do something, before we're gone , and we're just a rock where a world went wrong...** |

Hopefully Prince had a prenup with each of them, but he didn't like contracts and was such a romantic. But got to think that at least he was wise enough to cover his bases there. He dated a lot of women and knew how things could go horribly wrong.
.
It doesn't sound like he had really bitter divorces, so got to think that he wanted to take care of his ex's but they wouldn't have broken up if things were going well, so I wonder if he was paying them alimony or just gave them a lump sum. If alimony, then obviously that got cut off when he left this planet.
.
Oh well, they made him happy for many years, so glad that they were rewarded for that to some degree. He seemed to be able to afford whatever he gave them but just wonder if the money train has stopped now.
NO, they were not. |

I know that as early as one month prior to his departure, she was trying to sell off her china, engagement ring (complete with personal notes from her man) and his costumes and her wedding dress on NateDSanders.com. The only item that sold was her crystal handcuffs with key from the The Most Beautiful Girl and an amethyst gold tone pin.

That's strange. Asolutely nobody wanted to buy that stuff? Nobody?
A long time ago, I heard, that both exes received a certain amount of money over a certain amount of time. After that each was on their own to make their own way in the world.

I think you have to married for a minimum of 10 years in order to be eligable for alimony.
I know when I got divorced in the early 2000's that is what I was told
Who told you that? I know for a fact that several of my friends got alimony for at least little while and they were not married for 10 years. One was married for 7 yrs and got alimony for 6 months, enough to take care of her and their kids until the divorce was final, then she got child support. I know that you have to be married for at least 10 yrs to get any Social Security upon your spouses retirement though. [Edited 6/1/16 13:31pm] |
