I wonder if Mayte and Manuella were getting alimony?

Hopefully Prince had a prenup with each of them, but he didn't like contracts and was such a romantic. But got to think that at least he was wise enough to cover his bases there. He dated a lot of women and knew how things could go horribly wrong.

.

It doesn't sound like he had really bitter divorces, so got to think that he wanted to take care of his ex's but they wouldn't have broken up if things were going well, so I wonder if he was paying them alimony or just gave them a lump sum. If alimony, then obviously that got cut off when he left this planet.

.

Oh well, they made him happy for many years, so glad that they were rewarded for that to some degree. He seemed to be able to afford whatever he gave them but just wonder if the money train has stopped now.

mani is married again; that would negate any alimony order

Mani is another subject neutral but would he still owe Mayte money after all these years? I doubt it or she wouldnt have been trying to profit off his stuff over the years. I hope the brother didnt let himself be a piggybank to these women, but who really knows.

I think you have to married for a minimum of 10 years in order to be eligable for alimony.

Alimony isn't always decided by the courts. My grandfather electively laid my grandmother alimony until she died - 35 years after their divorce. He could have been paying them something all these years, but it wouldn't have likely been a court ordered payment.

I am inclined to believe that each woman probably got a lump sum settlement and that was it. I know for sure Mayte didn't get alimony because first of all, they didn't get divorced -- the marriage was ANNULLED.

So if the marriage didn't exist, no cause for alimony. She has lived pretty modestly in LA since her marriage ended and even during her time with Tommy Lee. I used to see them together at the dog park in Laurel Canyon and my yorkie would play with her yorkies. She had a lot of doggies!

depends on the state and the final divorce agreement. In at least one state... it can continue after remarriage for a set number of years.

Loyalty or guilt. You have to remember that Prince and Mayte were together for like 10 years when they finally split. Mayte was Prince's friend first before they got into a relationship and even for a short period afterwards. Prince and Mayte split for a lot of reasons(some that were sadly beyond their control) but that does not mean he did not love or care about her. You are supposed to look after the people that stood by you during your worst time and who was standing by Prince's side during the WB mess, Miss Mayte Garcia. Mayte has her faults(i.e that dumb fucking hollywood exes show) but she has always been there for him. Mayte does not trash Prince 98 percent of the time in interviews or on tv in general and she has had every opportunity to do so and that shows loyalty. Loyalty and a strong sense of character. Hell, Mayte is distraught and saddened over a man who broke her heart and divorced her like 20 years ago and that shows her character. When you divorce an ex, you usually want that asshole to suffer and get his just rewards but not mayte. Its no secret that if their kids had lived, Prince and Mayte might have still been together now and celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary which just passed. Prince was not as dumb as the world perceived him to be and he probably slid Mayte a few bucks now and then cause it was the right thing to do. Screw the legal thing to do, it would have been the moral and right thing to do. You can break apart but the loyalty and the love stays forever....no erasing that.

Now as for the rebound marriage aka Manuela, Prince didnt have to give her shit. Maybe a big divorce settlement but not no alimony unless she asked for it which seems unlikely. Mani had a business selling knockoff teabags or some shit like that and she was saving 3rd world orphans from ritual sacrifice or whatever the hell she does. Plus Mani is married to Eric Benet who does not exactly have "purple rain" money but is not soup kitchen poor. The only reason for Prince to have Manuela anything is if she was blackmailing him or had something damaging on him.

They did get divorced. The annulment was a tale he told, IIRC because he was dating while she was holed up in Marbella mourning the loss of their children.

I thought it had been confirmed that Mayte was getting 250k/year for 20 years. Anyone recall?

Because if a will is eventually found, one of the wives could inherit the money. It doesnt matter if Prince was legally divorced from Mayte and Manuela. If it states in the will that one of the ladies is getting the money, they get it regardless of the date it was drawn up. I am just telling you what i read on some site last week. I think that there is a will and that it is either in the vault or might have been burned up by one of Prince's siblings. Greed makes you do stupid things.

Good post-this whole story is just sad. I think Prince was in a dark place/bad things happening and that allowed Mani to work her way into their problems. Not judging anyone, but I always felt like Mani did not have Prince's best interest at heart neutral Not to mention she married a sex addict Prince wannabe in Eric Benet neutral Just triflin.

Its 300 million dollars up for grabs and it is seeming more and more everyday like most of his siblings are not shit in a handbag and mooched off of him. There was an article on yahoo a few days ago about Prince's siblings and how he was not close to the majority of them. Now knowing all of this information, put yourself in the place of Tyka or any of Prince's living siblings. You are his blood but you are not close to him. There is a document stating that you and the rest of his siblings are cut out of the will cause he not fucking with you or them. If you burn said will, you and your siblings not only stick it to Prince but now you and your siblings just automatically received 300 million dollars cause you are the next of kin. I never been to paisley park but doesnt it have a fire place?????

If Londel was right, there isn't one (to his knowledge). He tried to get Prince to write one up for years, and he said Prince hated thinking about that stuff, and avoided it every time. When someone like Prince (ie a big figure with a lot of money) has a will, it's usually known by a few folks, and is quickly surfaced. Knowing how Prince didn't always do what he should have in business, him not having a will seems almost 'normal' - for him.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

If Prince had a will, then most likely, he just didn't sit down and write it himself (although that could be possible). He would have to get an attorney to draw it up for him, and that attorney would have already come out with that information if that was the case.

.

To the contrary, the attorney who worked for him for many years said that he didn't have one. So most likely he did not.

And this is what I wondered...If he actually just drew up a simple piece of paper, something he personally wrote. God knows where it is. I wonder how honest the finder of this will he created would be honest enough to present it....OR...Would it just be lost forever in time.

If there is/was a legal will, it would've been registered in the county that Prince primarily lived in. Also, during the first few days of the nonstop media coverage, Prince's lawyer(s) would have come forward.

Who's to say if Prince has something he drafted himself and it was on a computer or in the Vault - let's hope there was one.

My sister passed in 2009 and my dad passed in 2014. I was the executor of both estates, and neither one was married. In the case of my sister, she had no children. I know more than I would like to about probate and estates.

I was the beneficiary of both estates, but the "burden" of handling both estates took a toll on me. I think it also interfered with the grieving process.

I'm married with a child, so everything automatically goes to my wife if something happens to me. But, I need to get a will made in case something happens to both of us.

Prince has been dead since October 1996 in theory but only physically as of recently. I never lost a child but i am grieving a parent and I know that when you lose someone that important, you die a little bit too. In prince's case, he died the moment that gregory did. All those dreams and aspirations that a parent has for a child were suddenly diminished and it ruined Prince. Gregory never had a chance because not that many people know about pffeifers syndrome cause it is so rare and they didnt have the technology in 1996 to detect extremely severe birth defects as they do right now. There are tests done now that ob/gyns do which can detect things like downs syndrome in the first trimester so it is more advanced. Prince and Mayte were doomed as parents from the start and that is sad. I do not know when the second miscarriage happened but that only killed Prince's soul more. I think losing those babies made Prince question his belief in god because we all wonder why stillbirths and miscarriages happen and if there is a loving god, why would he take such tiny souls early on? Its a mystery. I believe that Prince turned to JW to escape his grief and to try to find some sort of a biblical answer for what happened to his kids but once the grief began to subside after a few years, he wanted out of that religion but it was too late cause he was in too deep. The damage had already been done. P's albums were not selling that good. The media had basically labeled Prince a nut cause he was always sprouting about JW shit and chemtrails and conspiracy theories and nobody wanted to hear that. Mayte had moved on with her life and found happiness with others and in her work and so a reconcilation was not going to happen although i believe they did try to reunite once after the divorce from manuela. Mani never had Prince's best interest at heart or she would have told him to work it out with his wife and fight for his marriage instead of insinuating herself into it and only caring about being the next Mrs.Nelson. The sad thing about it is Mani never realized every prince album released after he married her has at least one song about mayte on it. Prince always loved Mayte but when you lose something as precious as a baby or even 2 babies, that can destroy a marriage. There is no coming back from it. I dont believe for 2 seconds that Mani had plans to build a school named after Prince in sudan or uganda until the moment that he died. Mani was just expected to make a statement cause she was prince's ex wife and that bullshit was probably the first thing that came to mind. Apparently Mani had not talked to prince in years and now suddenly she cares for him, no that is wanting your 15 minutes of fame again.

I am sure the man already knew or he would have been close to them.

Everyone has one or 2 people in their family that they do not fuck with because ita always drama or a fight or some controversy that comes from hanging around them. I am sure that the aforementioned was no different when it came to prince.

MissMarySharon

On Hollywood exes (in between bouts of shrieking between the women), Mayte was clearly stating that she did not receive alimony from Prince and was struggling financially to support her adopted daughter. Possibly this is why she was doing this show. It seemed to me like she has never really recovered from the loss of her birth children (unsurprisingly) or Prince, she still had clothes of his and stacks of wedding china. I think eventually she sold these, according to the show in an attempt to move on, or possibly she genuinly needed money. She seems to be a passionate and very caring lady, and at that time seemed quite desperate to meet a life partner and try for more children. I think she is getting work in films now, so maybe she is moving on.

I don't think Mayte would ever have wished Prince any ill and even though she might need the money, I don't see her suddenly trying to grab her share now, although of course I could be wrong. She seems to have been open in her sadness about his death etc. Their marriage was a tragedy for both, it is so very sad.

I don't know about Mani - during the time he was married to her I wasn't following him that closely for a few years, but I get the feeling she was a bit of an opportunist?
