Wow finally got a chance to listen to the tune Revelation and it is indeed hauntingly beautiful! (thanks for posting the utube link and the lyrics). It seems all the more relevant considering how recently it was written and released.

It's not unusual for anyone as they age to gain perspective on your life and your experiences and sometimes you need the wisdom of time to recognize who and what was important in your life. Sometimes it also makes you realize that you took some of it for granted - in Prince's case meeting Vanity at such a young age, he was just breaking out, had the world at his fingertips, it was hard to resist all the women and opportunities etc. So although he knew at the time that Vanity was special, he was too distracted by all the other and so let her slip through his fingers. Then he discovers that he can't get her out of his heart and realizes that she is just not that easy to replace. And they keep connecting or briefly hooking up over the next few years, but by then they had both hurt each other and it made it difficult for either of them to trust each other. Vanity then denounces her past life (including Prince) in the early days of her turn toward religion and then marries someone else. Prince is hurt and angry and then shows he can move on as well by marrying Mayte - but that relationship was not significant enough to weather the tough times, so he moves on and marries another pale replica of Vanity, but doesn't find true contentment in that relationship either. And then by the time he sings Revelation, he realizes that Vanity was the one all along, that it's never changed, that neither distance or time has changed any of it and he just wants to be in her arms again.

Another thing I find interesting is that in various interviews Prince often claimed how he didn't like to look back, that he only cared about the now, the present. But with Vanity it was always the exception, he always looked back at the period they were together with great sentimentality and wanting and he could never let go of that part of his past or of her!

So true he seems to have tried to find Vanity again using her as the template to the ones that followed. The time thing is so true that time he did look back- the 80s were the time when he became the international star and the movie Purple Rain came out and I choose to believe Vanity was the muse for that time. I guess I should say a big inspiration.

you're right. this from Rick James autobiography.

The autograph incident happened in 1982 at Dick Clark's afterparty.

Also, Rick talked to Prince's manager about the Mary Jane Girls idea, and that's how he thinks Prince got the idea.

IDK I just can't imagine Prince crying like a baby in public; he may have worn heels and beat his face but to me I think he would fight or talk big trash

Just looked at the lyrics to Adore again, there's a line about how he called her at 3am after the AMAs lol. This is recorded Nov 1986. Vanity started dating Nikki in May. Maybe he wrote this to try to woo her back. Perhaps if he was trying to get her back this is why Susannah finally left in December. I think Susan Rogers misinterpreted the situation thinking that Adore and Wally were written for Susannah. They were probably written for Vanity who was dating Nikki Sixx at the time and that is why in Wally he says it was 'no use.'

I really enjoyed that interview. Thank you again! Denise was more open in there than in preaching videos I've heard/seen so far. She had to set that interviewer straight a couple of times! Feisty. I liked that the only other man in her book, besides Jesus, was Prince. That said a lot. It sounded as though they hadn't talked in awhile, but if she wanted to reach him, she could easily. purple the latest period of Prince's romantic history might be my least favorite. All the girls seem very young and while I am sure they are lovely they just don't have the sass, style, and sex appeal of our dear vanity.

No shade, but I just don't get Bria AT ALL. Doesn't seem to be much personality in terms of the public. He looked like a tiny wizened spider next to her. She'a monumental.

That was 2007 to 2010.

Then AA. He said publically he had a crush on her. I think she made him look very old. Kinda sad to me. I'm sure she's very nice. But the vibe just wasn't there for me. 2011/2012 and maybe again in 2014.

I think Damaris is beautiful but again very young. I'm sure that kind of energy rejuvenated him but I personally did not find her very interesting.

Post Mayte some stand out more then others. Tamar and Bria are ok, but they are no Jill Jones or Sheila E etc! then again I prefer the Proteges from the 80s rather than the recent ones.

I agree. I don't know really anything about these ladies- Bria, Andy, or Damaris, other than what they look like and that they are young. They are beautiful in their own right and talented, I'm sure. I get he was trying to help them launch careers, but as far as romantic love partner, you would think a middle-aged man would be looking for a mature woman to beside him into the later years. I don't know. Perhaps these younger helped him feel younger? Was he still looking for a "replacement"?

It looks to me like he developed a fetish for 'radically new". ie very young, possibly virginal from 1986 on:

Whether that was due to physical attraction or because young women are easier to manipulate I don't know. I think he had decided that strong women like Vanity, Kim Basinger and Susannah were too much trouble.

Does anyone know if there is a video of Prince actually calling Damaris or anyone else his 'muse'? Or is this something other people have said and a label they put on the relationship.

I don't buy this whole muse thing. But of course, I could be wrong. And I'm sure there will be someone that will tell me so.

The Art Official Age Album (2014) seems to be saying a lot about Denise (unsurprisingly) and interestingly a lot of the songs were recorded between Summer 2011 - 2012. (per Prince Vault). Andy Allo is on those recordings but I can’t see her as anything other than a musician he’s working with. If anything she looks like his daughter.

Why did he date such young girls, especially towards the end of his life? Prince was so good looking and had so much charisma so it would look like he could get a beautiful woman his age or close to it. I mean there are some young looking 40, 50 and almost 60 year olds. His dating life reminds of Elvis Presley's. EP met his wife when she was 14, Prince met his first one when she was 16. Ann-Margret was only like 6 years younger than EP and she was said to be his mirror image. He thought she was the female version of himself. That is the same way Prince saw Vanity and she was said to be his mirror image. Vanity was around his age and everything. Both Ann and Vanity were seeing other people at one point and EP and Prince wanted them to leave their men and come back to them. Both Ann and Vanity refused to play second fiddle to Prince and EP. They weren't going to be controlled by those men either but in the end, both EP and Prince went to their graves knowing that those women were their other halves.

2 things (beyond the reality that most men see younger chicks as a validation of their attractiveness and also they are sexually attracted to youthful women)

1) Prince needed to portray a youthful image to the world in order to get young people to listen to his music. This is a commercial reality.

2) Alot of mature people are living in the past. Prince needed youth around him to stay relevant artistically.

Both valid reasons. Besides Vanity dropped out of Hollywood. She wasn't playing that game anymore. As much as he probably still loved her, he couldn't be around her preaching all the time and still create good music. She herself wasn't really into it anymore from about 2000 on, it seems to me.

In terms of lifestyle he probably would have been more compatible with Sheila E than Vanity in the last years, don't you think?

For someone who says he doesn't look back at the past, his actions sure said otherwise. I wish somewhere along the way Prince could have really thought about just living life. I know music was him, he was music but I also look at these legend both past and present and see that they are not looking to be relevent anymore. They have already put in their work and cemented their legacy so they don't give a damn about creating anymore. He was PRINCE! He didn't need to fight for the spotlight or compete with the young ones. I wish he would have slowed down, tried to have kids or adopted some and became a husband to a mature woman, my pick would have been Denise, LOL. He earned the right to enjoy his legacy and that wouldn't have meant he was old either. I love him but he looked ridiculous with those young girls and even creepy to me. I shudder when I think about him saying that he had crush on Andy Allo, lawd.

Prince and S.E. come across as brother and sister to me, always have. I don't know if he could have made the kind of music he wanted with S.E. or Denise around because S.E. is in his age bracket and of course Denise was deeply religious. If he wanted to feel young neither one would have worked out for him, I guess. Love S.E. though, she is one of the greatest of all time!

You may be right about the "brother-sister" term. P (in later years) did say she was like a sister to him. I guess in the 80's their on and off romance was a little more alive. And she always seemed to be his musical equal to me. But we all know Vanity and Sheia were strong minded and they weren't going to take a whole lot of mess from our man.
