Prince pinched Susannah's cheeks and so did Vanity. He was having at with both and we all know that but sex doesn't equal love. Wait a min., didn't Prince say that in one of his songs? Well you know what interesting about the fact that Prince was writing nasty songs about her in 1996 is that you don't write songs about someone you don't care about. What is the expression about there being a "thin line between love and hate." I think Prince was angry with Vanity at that time because he reached out to her after her overdose (flowers, was in touch with her, visited her) and after that event she disowned her previous life and that likely included Prince at that time. Then she turned around and married someone within a year. As we noted throughout this thread, Prince spoke to Vanity through his music and she was listening and called him out about being unhappy as his songs were so negative. As I said in a previous comment "Vanity was one of the few women who didn't let Prince get away with things - she called him on it."

I am going to respectfully disagree. When she overdosed, she had a stroke, heart attack, and went blind in one or both eyes for a time. All of that on top of renal failure, which could kill you all by itself. If I understand correctly, she even had a kidney transplant late 1990's or early 2000's which her body rejected. If your body rejects an organ from a transplant, one of the major complications is death. That she lasted as long as she did is indeed a miracle- even with the dialysis she should've been dead a long time ago.

100% agree with purplegirl00.

The dialysis machine, doctors, medicine, etc. are simply the tools God chose to work through but she could have easily died with or without those tools.

I agree it was a threat to their place/role in Prince's life, hence playing down her influence. Since her death and Prince's tributes to Vanity which were widley reported, they can't do that anymore. I have noticed that with all the Prince commemoratives that have come out, alot of these women who think they were "the one" have been ignored.

I'm sure there was jealousy there too. Apollonia had more pressure because in replacing Vanity, she had some big shoes to fill for both the movie and then the girl group. Apples is definitely beautiful but she was did not have the sensual/ spit fire personality as Vanity.

On the next page Prince is mentioned but I can't read that page (gonna keep trying). It sounds like both Prince and Vanity had lots of attention from the opposite sex which led to the jealousy, arguments and revenge.

I agree. She was stunning and he was dripping sex. She was no saint though. Both had plenty of ammunition to hurt each other. He definitely made mention of the "others" especially in those angry-filled songs we suspect to be about her.

I do believe it's real. His talking in there says he was remembering and wanted her to remember too. Why a decade later? Again, I consider it evidence of connection throughout the years.

Are there pics of Adam and Vanity at that awards show? The problem is, all this shit in the 80s was pre internet, so pics are hard to find.

My understanding is that Adam and Vanity or knew each other before she met Prince. Years ago, I read something about their relationship and Adam was really taken by Vanity and I think loved her deeply.

Odd that Rick didn't really speak of Vanity much-esp since both were on Motown in the 80s.

Re Apples and Prince-I don't believe they hooked up. If they did, it was most likely once and not ongoing. There is something about Apples and I can't put my finger on it, but she isn't someone I could have seen P take an interest in for long and to be honest, looking back on it, she didn't seem to fit into the Purple Camp. She stuck out like a sore thumb-I can't say why, but she did.
