Thanks OnlyNDaUsa!

Indeed, Prince did (co)write this song. He even recorded his own versions of it, see Princevault. Happy Easter lol

His contribution is established, no doubt about it. Most likely Moon removed his credit as a retaliation for Prince depriving him of credits and royalties on one song on For You.

yeah in the book POP LIFE, Moon is quoted that a few songs ("baby" being one of them) that were at least co-written by Moon went credited to Prince "Soft and Wet" being the only exception.

I've read Pop Life, but I don't remember what Moon said there. I think it's usually just My Love Is Forever that people mention as the credit omission problem on For You. But in Matt Thorne's Prince: A Celebration the following paragraph appears, in which Moon is quoted separating himself from any involvement in "Baby" (and from the unreleased "Surprise," which he earlier clarified was Prince's solo writing as well):

Mooon says that while he was "playing with songs that were of a general sexual nature, Prince was playing around with songs around the concept of getting pregnant." "Surprise" was one of these songs; "Baby," also demoed during these sessions and later included on For You was another. "I don't know if this was something he was worried about or wary of, but I told him I think we want to stay away from babies because that's not something young girls are going to want to be thinking about."

While I had the outtake since 1995, I'd never heard of Sue Ann's version until a French blogger uncovered it in 2007. Princevault themselves only added it a few months ago. It was one of P's most hidden released songs ever alongside those tracks he played on that were uncovered by the Minneapolis Snow compilation nod.
