It seemed legit from handwriting but no way of knowing for sure, and for $910.00 writing in similar handwriting to fill a diary would not be so hard. Had it appeared whilst Denise was alive , she would obviously have been able to say if it was hers or not and how someone managed to get hold of it. If it is some collector buying it to collect and just read themselves that is different than if they try sell details to media or write a book around it.

trust if people can get madonna journals etc than they can get stuff from a z list'er like a denise matthews ... And believe me nobody will give that person a book deal or even want to write a bio on her ... i love vanity but lets not get carried away

The eBay listing said the person found it in storage. As I said in a previous post on this, it reminds me of the Jacksons Next Generation (yes I watched ) when Taj and his brothers put their things in storage after their mother was murdered and then someone bought the storage lot and saw the pics of them and that Kardashian vapor and he got in touch and she made it so that their stuff was returned to them.

Whoever had this storage obviously kept it but must have some interest in her because they knew exactly when to put it on eBay.

And Vanity (Denise) doesn't have to be an A-Lister. This world is obsessed with people's personal lives and don't forget, not to take anything from her, but the main attraction or person of interest in all of this is Prince. Not to mention the mogul that is Berry Gordy. So yeah, I think people would be interested. Which brings me to who might have paid that money for it.

On the one hand its a damn shame this world is so focused on people's skeletons. On the other hand you know you want to know, maybe not everything, but some things. But there's people who will want to know everything. So whoever got this will either protect themselves if they are in it, or protect Denise by not spilling beans.

Z lister is harsh! In the 80's Vanity was regarded as one of the most beautiful & hottest women around just look at some of the people she dated, many people knew who she was that had never bought a record by her. She had success with Vanity 6 & solo granted not multi million sellers like Beyonce. She was in successful movies 'The Last Dragon' has cult following some 30 years later, etc. She left all that behind in the early 90's.

A book deal is possible with a major publisher, it may or may not happen time will tell, same for TV movie with someone playing her possible also. There have been artists/actors that have had books/films after their passing that were not as well known as Denise was especially in the 80's. She married a serial killer who was well known football player, dated Prince & was in one of his groups, etc - lot of interest there. Besides her story how she turned her life around and dedicated her life to God for the last 20+ years is an interesting one! There are many Christian book publishers with worldwide distribution and in the U.S. Christian movie studios that produce well made films maybe they will take up such projects, especially considering Roxane Harper is in charge of her estate. Not saying all that will definitely happen but for sure potential is there!

Lol, those Kardash's make me cringe but I'm a huge Jackson's fan so I had to watch the next generation. I don't know why or how people can trust storage tho. I've never used it, but one thing seems for sure, if you don't pay, they sell your stuff quick time.

That so called personal diary is a fake. According to the diary she is leaving mlps in Oct of 1983 and doesn't have the courage to call Prince. That can't be true because the casting call to replace her in the film was on Sept 15, 1983. Prince also stated recently in the Ebony interview that he wrote the beautiful ones about Vanity when she had "just quit the film". If you look at prince vault it states that he recorded the song on Sept 20, 1983. Dates don't match up with the diary. She also mentions Susan calling her Susan of V6. Why would you have to clarify who the person is if you are writing in your journal wouldn't you already know? Another problem with the diary is the entry that states that the Motown special is on tv. How can that be when the Motown 25 special aired on May 15, 1983. This was 1983 there was no dvr or youtube. Whoever wrote this fan fiction is someone that had a lot of knowledge of Vanity's history and relationships ie Mickey Free, Berry Gordy, Adam Ant etc... however, they messed up by putting in dates that can easily be disputed if you do the simple research. I feel sorry for the person who paid $900.

Being respectful I will only say if the person who commented that the Journal was purchased or came out of a storage. They are correct and it was a personal possession that was attained properly or I will say lawfully. If someone here purchased it there are some details when I examined it that will verify it. I will just say there appeared to be 60 -80 pages that had writing in it.

I wish I had the finances at the time to attain all her personal property as to i felt terrible at the time given the circumstances.

Not certain on dates or authenticity of the diary. Regarding leaving Mlps in Oct 1983 not impossible she stayed there for while longer after splitting from Prince. For certain she was in CA by Jan. '84 at least as recording for 'Wild Animal' started then.

Regarding highlighted part above not sure on your point? The diary entry mentioning she saw it it on TV is earlier than actual first broadcast of Motown 25th special?

Even if I was a millionaire I wouldn't have purchased it especially as it was never intended be seen by anyone other than Denise (unless she personally chose to show it to anyone). It would be easy as you said to duplicate similar handwriting or already naturally have handwriting like that combined with some knowledge of dates, people, etc.

If a fan bought it I hope it is genuine and they didn't just get stung for $910, I hope also they just got it as they are a collector & they felt it was a one off thing out there and that they don't share everything in it publicly or attempt to write a book or something around it

Ive been on the Org since 2003 and folks have been making those threads since I can remember so its good to see her looking healthy and beautiful as do all the ladies. It's even better that they came out for Vanity

Both Brenda & Susan were there, and many others. Susan and Brenda got baptized at the service, you can see them both on videos.

So pleased it was such a wonderful Celebration of her life and fitting tribute! No word on whether or not Prince was there yet, assume he wasn't and if that was the case it is understandable he wouldn't have wanted to draw too much attention or overshadow things especially with any media outside.

Me no think so. I was alive and well in '83, still am (I think). VCR's cost a fortune in '83 but they did exist. Whoever had the money for them got one. I knew somebody who was on a TV show back then and he had one, just to tape himself (well of course).

I would only say this, and with all respect. When I'm drunk, I get dates wrong. I get people wrong. I loose my keys. As Vanity would say 'Catch my drift'? Alot was going on during that time. Days at a time might go missing. Who knows.

And personally, I really cannot see how someone would have the actual time to sit down and doctor a diary. Come on now.

I would not buy it either, and its not about money. It's about support. And after sharing some things with Denise, I would not feel right. I'm not judging anybody because I have no right. But I seriously doubt its fake. I just don't see it.

Good sleuthing! But I am guessing that quitting the film (professional) and moving away from MPLS (personal) were two separate concerns that she would have felt she had to communicate to her friend.

There is one more point about the diary that seems questionable. On October 13, 1983 Vanity attended the premier for Michael Jackson's Thriller video. The premier was held at a movie theater in L.A. and was attended by many celebrities including Eddie Murphy. Vanity attended the event with Mickey Free and there is a famous photo of the two of them together that was taken at this event. I remember it well because it was the first photo I had ever seen of Vanity. According to the diary she was still in mlps until October 26th or 27th. So the writer of the diary expects us to believe that she flew to L.A. to attend that premier (with another man) on the 13th and then flew back to mlps to say her goodbyes. Denise said herself that she was not making much money in those days I doubt she was flying back and forth at this period in her life. Look if the diary is legit then I will stand corrected but I don't think we should just accept it as truth without fact checking it first.

Look, people are splitting hairs here. But I do have my own suspicion/conspiracy theory about the diary, only about 'who' bought it, and how it was obtained. If it is one person I suspect, then they seem like an opportunist and at that time they would have grabbed what they could get. Don't bother asking me who I suspect because thats as far as I will go. And if its them, then its just wrong and then I wouldn't put it past them to doctor some stuff and that would also explain why some pages are missing.

On another note, you need a person who is trained at studying handwriting to know if its hers throughout the diary. Other than that its just guessing that its not hers.

Whatever the case may be, somebody paid a good sum of money to get it and thats the risk they took. Happens all the time. No different from buying fake designer goods on eBay. Its a mindfield.

Overall, all of our theories are just guess work.
