I mean, I have just listen to W&L doing a version of It from SOTT: no idea where it is from, whether it has just leaked, when it was recorded and was wondering if anyone else did? Hell, it may be fake (sounds very much like them though) but it ain't a nonsense post. [Edited 12/28/15 4:36am]

The OP was being confusing. It could have meant W&L covering the song It, it could have meant W&L being ghostwriters for the song It, it could have meant W&L playing on the song It on SOTT, it could have meant W&L making love together (obvious subtext for "doing it"), or it could have meant W&L actually doing anything u can possibly imagine. I think it's not excessive to ask people for clarification when they create cryptic threads. Now the OP has clarified and I'm cool

Wendy, Lisa and Prince made magic in the studio, that is evident in released and unreleased music from that era. The three of them had a musical understanding, that far surpassed our mere insights into their time together and opinions on the matter.

It's not really a big secret what split up the Revolution. Former members have not been entirely quiet about it, but unless Prince felt a need to go in a different artistic direction (which we'll never know), their split was on a personal level.

Seems to me, they recorded this track strictly for fun, pulling a random Prince track and covering it. Never intended for use or release. But a leak, well... that's something else.

I enjoyed It (Dream Factory/SOTT) but it isn't one of the songs I listen to often, the minimalism on a song like that needs to be a shorter song.

Screeching? lol I hear a lot of power and passion myself. And Wendy & Lisa helped to define the music Prince was developing during that time. He was using songs from the Vault and the mid 80's all the way up to Graffiti Bridge. Listen to Power Fantastic which Wendy & Lisa wrote the music for, and tell me that they didn't understand minimalism. Just remember, without Wendy & Lisa, songs like Graffiti Bridge would have happened a lot sooner. lol

They certainly didn't help to define the music that resulted in songs like It. That much is clear from listening to this version.

Oppositely I think the lenght of It is what makes the track all the more interesting. The development of that obsessive beat over the course of 7 minutes is absolutely fascinating. Making it shorter would have ruined the hypnotizing effect.

I dig the W&L version a lot, though. It's a different approach, but it works

Yeah, it's an individual thing of course. No right or wrong. It was a song after fulling hearing it a few times, I never listened to directly for the full extent of it's time. While there are other songs that are not long enough for me

If you pay any attention to the soundtrack stuff W&L have done you'd realize this is anarbitrary statement based on limited knowledge.

They have reworked the song in a way that suggests to me that they didn't understand the original concept. The same thing happened with Strange Relationship which W&L turned into a hippie sing-a-long, complete with sitar and tablas. Totally inappropriate to the lyrics.

I like it. I have alwasy loved the original too. It's a lighter take on it. The original is a bit dark and heavy, and this one is chiller and devoid of darkness. I wonder when it was recorded?
