Exciting reading these. Set my alarm for 3am and no live stream, didn't realise it was simulcast on radio! Gonna have a look later and see if they have it on the radio station site - or pray that someone recorded it! Morris is a pure legend!

SHOW REVIEW: Only saw the end of Judith Hill - unbelievable voice. Morris took the stage with the same lineup he's had for years: Jellybean on drums, Monte Moir on keys (the other two original members) along with Tori "Freak Juice" Ruffin on guitar, Ricky "Freeze" Smith on bass and Jeff McNeely on keys. There was a new valet who looks more like Jerome than the one Morris had been using but I didn't catch his name. This having been at least my tenth-plus TIME gig dating back to the 80s, I know all of the show's incarnations. Off the top of my head and in rough order (no cellphones allowed, period -- more on that in a bit), the playlist: Get it Up, Cool, Wild and Loose, The Stick, Pandomoneum, a slow jam medley with brief versions of Girl and Sometimes I get Lonely and then a full version of Gigilors Get Lonely Too, Fishnet, The Oak Tree, 777-9311, The Walk, Ice Cream Castles, The Bird, Black Cat (Jellyean guitar solo), Tricky (Morris on Drums) and then Jungle Love. As always, the fella's musicianship and sound was second to none. Morris was definitely more turnt up than usual (he must have had the benefit of some backstage/tour bus booze that none of the fans got to have), improvising more than usual. He said to the band, "We are at Prince's house, can you believe it?" At another point he mentioned that he and Jellybean had been pals since they were eleven years old; at another he gave "a special thanks to Prince. We go so far back we have to let stuff go" or something to that effect. And then remarkably he concluded with, "We love you, Prince." Remarkable because Prince has screwed with these guys for years in various ways, most eggregiously, not allowing them to use the name, "The Time" on their last CD, that despite being great, never saw the light of day except for a lucky few. (Condensate, by The Original 7ven, is great from top to bottom, produced mostly by Jimmy and Terry with a few great Jesse tunes thrown in.) No doubt the corny name sunk that fantastic project before it even got started, but I digress. The show itself was basically the same as all Time shows (great) except with more songs than usual. Some of the other regularly played songs left out were Blondie, My Drawers, The Skillet and the only song ever played off Condensate, Trendin'. The highlight of the show for me was the addition of putting Jellybean out front on guitar for a solo of Black Cat, the number one song he produced for Janet Jackson. Started out Black Cat and melded in to Bean's great channeling of Hendrix. When the sizzle off his guitar faded, Tori shouted out, "But whose gonna' play skins?" Cut to Morris playing a ridiculous drum solo off the B-side jam, Tricky, followed by a full-version of Tricky. For those who don't know, Morris is a world-class drummer and Jellybean a world-class guitar player and I've been hoping they would pull this switch-up for years. Well, my wait was over and I was not disappointed. Tricky included the Oe EE Oe EE Oe chorus that transitioned sweetly into the finale, Jungle Love. Prince made no appearance -- no surprise there -- and When Doves Cry came in over the speakers the show was definitely over. All that being said, a few words about the overall experience. First, if you "only" pay 50 bucks for general admission, you have to park a half mile away from Paisley and get shuttled in a bus, only to find hundreds of empty parking spots at Paisley reserved for "VIPs" who dropped an extra 100 to park there and sit on seats in front of the stage. Personally, I don't sit for The Time and paying the extra hundred clams for that seemed like a fat ripoff. More annoyingly, no booze is served at Paisley Park. That dramatically reduces the enthusiasm of the crowd. Where else in the world outside of Paisley Park do you see a great concert with no booze whatsoever outside of Morman Utah. Lastly, and most annoying, I was going to meet a friend at the venue but never found her because you can't even text in Paisley Park. I knew video was not allowed, but when I got there, knowing how absurd Prince and his rules are, I asked a staff member if I could shoot a text outside the auditorium by the bathroom. "No, you shouldn't even have your phone in here. You should have left it in the car. If you even take it out and it is seen by security, they will take your phone and kick you out." Well, my car is a mile away, thank you, and who in the Hell doesn't communicate by cell phone in 2016?? Thanks to this absurd rule I never did find my friend. And by the way, if you try to cheat and text anyway -- as I did in the bathroom -- you will quickly see you get no service in Paisley Park! So TWO ENTHUSIASTIC THUMBS UP for Morris Day and the Time. And two big thumbs down for this venue and its preposterous rules. Unless The Time returns, or some other epic band, I'm never going back to Paisley Park.

In many ways Prince is an anachronism, especially about phones. As annoying as it is not to have one's phone at a show, it was nice not seeing all those phone screens between me and Prince when he performed last week. My perspective is that the positive far outweighed the negative when it comes to this issue.

---- Everybody has a right to their opinion but you were aware of the no cell phone, no alcohol, and parking stiuation when the show was announced. In addition after 30 years of going to concerts and dealing with drunk idiots I would love it if venues would stop selling drinks or make a cut off and I do not blame Prince for not wanting a bunch of drunks at his venue.

Thanks KCOOL! Even though the link has been removed, at least I know it's out there. I did some googling and just watched 3 videos of Morris on the drums. 2 of those were friggin awesome!!! I'm so psyched to finally see him with the sticks. He's very nimble and fast and also holds down a very solid funk beat, well at least based on those short clips. John Blackwell is the most similar of P's drummers, but Morris seems to hit a little harder. Those clips definitely confirm for my own eyes and ears that Morris is the great drummer we've heard about. Very, very cool.

I love Morris on drums, and his attitude with those skins. However, I think he sounds a tiny bit like he is rushing. He has maybe not been playing regularly for the last years. His style is unique and perfect for that edgy minneapolis funk sound. I just kinda feel that he would sound even better if he was behind the skins all the time, obviously. Anyways, MAD RESPECT to Morris for being suh a big inspiration to so many drummers, without them even knowing it.

Maybe if prince would have picked Morris as the drummer 4 The Revolution instead. Which Morris has said he would've preferred. He is way better than Bobby Z on the skins.

But Eye guess prince was looking for diversity instead. Since he was looking to crossover. Which was VERY difficult for black artist to do @ the time. It worked because prince did crossover. Which turned him into a HUGE superstar till this day.
