gainsbourg does not know what he is talking about, as displayed, at length, in the Prince forum on the Where did it all go wrong? thread.
You're clearly in the minority here mate, perhaps its time to take other people's opinions on board and get a little education. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Yeah, it's harde to speak about things that you really don't know...and what I mean by this is that, I can't really say much about the Woodstock era because I wasn't there. I missed on it and I really can't complain, only watch and appreciate it for the experience I went through which is watching it on TV as a movie. So with that, Gainsbourg was just a baby when The Revolution played with Prince. He wasn't at the shows or experienced the excitement of the actual time(s), he has just a limited view of what happened. When did you become a fan Gainsbourg? And you know, that's a commentary on how technology especially the internet, ie Kazaa, Morpheus, etc. file sharing can give a depreciated view on artists and almost diminish the musical experience.

Gainsbourg clearly has the right to his opinion.
That said: The Revolution's contribution to Prince's music should NEVER be questioned. The only 2 "band lineups" that were better than The Revolution ("officially" defined here as the 83-86 lineup, without Dez) were 1. the "Dirty Mind" tour band: Andre, Dez, Lisa, Fink & Bobby Z 2. the "Controversy/1999" tour band: with Brown Mark instead of Andre Back in the day- when basically EVERYTHING he put out was KICK-ASS- his band members stayed around long enough so that you could remember who they were & what they looked like.. you could "identify" with them.. in the last, oh, 5 years (in which time I "resigned" from being a "Prince fan") Knucklehead has changed band members almost as often as some people change their underwear.. think this "constant" changing DOESN'T make a difference somewhere, somehow? I'll see you tonight..

They ran the race and crossed the finish line with Prince. Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.
