jimmy jam & terry lewis have played a big role in janet's success. how bout wendy & lisa w/ prince? now prince did release sign o the times after he broke up the revolution however that album was already in the works before he fired wendy and lisa and a lot of those songs dated back a few years so he had music on deck already. but after that album prince started a slow decline with his artistry and slowly new jack swing became the new cool thing and prince while still prince was more of yesterday news in a way when you had guys like bobby brown with don't be cruel, new edition with heartbreak, keith sweat, al b. sure, guy, babyface etc all takin' over
sure, prince is a legend and continued to have a career and in regards to wendy and lisa they were always goin' to be the musicians in his band and that's that. but you have to wonder, just how important and influential they really were to him (and they were because where he was limited in music and lookin' for new music to be inspired to, they came in and offered ideas and even put him onto some music) because once they were shown the door, there was a change in his music and those years of prince crankin' out straight masterpieces came to a halt. sure, he had hits post revolution but not like he had with them
i was just listenin' to this song of wendy and lisa's and was thinkin' bout this

Which song of Wendy & Lisa's inspired these thoughts? |

oooof, look, I like the revolution days, a lot, but it's a huge false equivance to put wendy and lisa on the same level to prince as jam and lewis are to janet. no disrespect to anyone, the janet fans around here bite, but, no. really, no. just, no. how about just saying "they influenced his sound for a few years, and I liked it", and leave it at that.

I think he mainly internalised their musical influence. I'd like to have seen what he'd have done with more of their solo stuff, the Lolly Lolly remix was a minor change but a good one imho [Edited 1/9/16 15:36pm]

Jam & Lewis created and shaped Janet's sound. I can't say Wendy & Lisa had the equivalent influence on Prince. |

they helped prince expand his horizons with his music for the music that prince wasn't too much up on, they put him onto. whether it be old music or new music(for that time) because you gotta remember prince was workin' like a mad man back then and constantly in the studio. so they helped put him onto an assortment of music that he wasn't already up on even though obviously he had quite a wide spectrum of knowledge bein that his dad was musician and his mom was a singer as was both lisa and wendy's parents it's like wendy said, "he was hungry for influences to take him further, so he relied heavily on me and lisa to guide him in the directions he couldn't think of himself"
prince even said this to mtv back in the day, "it's true that i record very fast. it goes even quicker now that the girls help me"
a few of several songs wendy and lisa helped out on are raspberry beret, when doves cry, mountains, pop life, let's go crazy, i would die 4 u, and purple rain
wendy song on the song free, on the 1999 album and lisa contributed vocals as well on that album
, prince had paid for a 3 day studio session at sunset sound for lisa's brother's birthday. he (lisa's brother) used those 3 days and recorded a demo tape with wendy's brother and then they gave the demo to both lisa and wendy. lisa and wendy gave it to prince because they were in awe of how good it was because of the different instruments and sounds on it. the demo tape had a song on it titled "around the world in a day". with lisa's brother's permission, prince re-recorded the song as the title track for his next album ("around the world in a day") and started workin' on it right away and whenever he had the time to because he was still tourin' and workin' on sheila e's album |

No Wendy & Lisa didn't produce Janet and do the music for like J & T did for Janet
This should not even be a comparison. The all had very comfortable beyond just work relationships that lended to making some wonderful music, but J&T did much more than W&L

NO COMPARISON. Jam and Lewis practically CREATED Janet... Make it so, Number One... |

Wendy and Lisa need to be credited for their work, and the good mix they made with Prince, but didn't produce Prince in the same way Janet was produced. Janet didn't write AT ALL. |

Definitely not true. Lyricaly she is involved. She collaborates with them. And since we're talking Jam and Lewis, Janet's latest album is a BEAST! FlyteTyme just as old as Prince and they just keep bringing it, new sounds and styles, different artists, young and old, album after album...

Jam and Lewis is great, but Wendy and Lisa/Prince thing was something way more involved as far as a musical collboration.

When will the overrating of Wendy and Lisa ever stop? Are you kidding with that analogy? Jam and Lewis to Wendy and Lisa? Here is the real difference: look at the body of work Jam and Lewis have after Prince and look at Wendy and Lisa after Prince. [Edited 1/12/16 4:31am] Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. I think they are underrated, actually. At least on the Org. It shouldn't be controversial that they had a prominent role in Prince's music from 83 to 87, but it is.

Well obviously prince didn't have another hit song or critically acclaimed album since they parted ways.... How did he even survive ? |
