Donna Grantis... one of the most boring musicians Prince ever had? what is she bringing to the table?? Prince plays guitar better yet she plays most of the solos on Prince albums and concerts.. and there's nothing really interesting about her and her playing.. don't really see the point of Prince having her play for him.. I like her. Plays great but does not take all of the air out of the room. Prince doesn't force anything with her.

It frees him up so that he doesn't have to play guitar that much. Thats her purpse. Prince has been mailing it in on his live performance since about 2011 or so and with her or any other guitar player he doesn't have to do it plain and simple. I like her more than the drummer but she is not the best guitar player he has had but she is definately not the most boring. I like her better than Kat Dyson and the reverend guy. She is behind Dez, Levi, Wendy and Miko though.

I think 3rdEyeGirl is one of the most boring bands that Prince has ever had

They can all sing so they could share lead vocals. Like if Morris was singing Prince could fill in on drums or whatever. Their live shows would be amazing. Think of the possible set list. The best of Prince, The Time and Andre Cymone all in one show.

she's basically filler for the concerts isn't she?

totally agree!! They do nothing for me whatsoever. Where the hell is Maceo, Rhonda and other great musicians like that?

Nope. I had heard her prior to Prince with her band and I really enjoyed her playing. No idea what she is doing or not doing with Prince's thing (I have not paid that much attention) but her live gigs were awesome.

I see her live and the girl is fantastic... she had the whole arena in her corner.

I don't think so. She plays the rhythm parts which someone has to play because Prince doesn't really do much anymore and she gets most of the solos. I like her and hope he keeps her around even though I think we all know this is probably their last year together based on Prince's track record with bands. I like the bass player also. The only only one who sucks is the drummer. When I saw them live Donna was great!! She worked the crowd well and nailed the solos. Prince holds the band back becasue of all the segments where he needs to sit down and rest with the two 30 minute sampler medleys but the actual songs they performed as a band were great(at least to me).

I'll have to disagree that the band would 'suck' compared to the NPG though.

I think it might be because the period is boring. After 20Ten / Welcome 2 Tours the direction he went into wasn't clear and then there was the whole extended time period before releasing an album No videos, no real promotions of the music in the time period etc

no. considering she's next to one of the top guitarists EVER, not only does she pull her weight, but she certainly outsines drummer biblebarbie, and maintains her own uniqueness at the same time.

No - it doesnt mean that. If she was an extraordinary young nobody - as Janelle Monae once was - she wouldnt piss anyone off because they would see how great she would be. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

You'd be wrong. She is a really great guitar player. By nobody you mean not mainstream and you never heard her.

Donna is great. And she knows how to handle het guitar. It seems you can't handle the fact that Prince chose a girl guitarist? 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

of course donna isn't boring. girl can play, and if you'd seen her last night you'd know she has 'it'.

She's awesome. I didn't care for her that much when she started because she couldn't fill in on rhythm guitar in a productive way at first but she's grown a lot since joining him IMO. Change it one more time..

I've listened to her Electric Band album, which is cool, post-Hendrix fusion and she's a good Hendrix-style lead player, but I doubt she had much rhythm playing experience before joining Prince (lead playing is normally seen as 'sexier' after all, though it's arguably easier to play than great funk rhythm playing).
Also, having to be a funky rhythm guitar player for one of the greatest funky rhythm guitar players ever, must certainly be funk university course in itself .

I like her. I know she's limited to her own post-zeppelin rock style and she sure ain't no Wendy but I like to see Prince bounce off her with his own playing.
