Listened to it from end to end twice and it is really Prince adding some vocals and guitar to someone's record. There is a different 20-something young girl singing or rapping or talking on half the album. Prince isn't playing the majority of the computerized instruments according to the credits - the human bass, guitar and keys that are hallmarks of everything he has ever done are almost non existent and barely noticeable. Fortunately, Josh seems to get most of the credit for production and composition.

Most of HuitnRun - especially the first half - sounds like teenage club music from some kid producer who somehow got Prince to lay some vocals and a few guitar licks on top to make it shine enough to get some attention. This is enough for most artists to call something their album. In fact, this is how most pop albums are made today - the "solo" artist essentially show up for the lead vocals and other people are doing everything else. This is not how a Prince album has been made for more than 3 decades.

I guess I would just feel a little better if it was one of those classic Prince protoge album (Jil Jones, The Family, Sheila E, NPG) where you knew he did most of it and the artist was the conduit that delivered it under his or her name instea dof Prince's.

With every new thread you further reveal how fragile your psyche is - you don't like the album, and you don't like that Prince is collaborating with others, thus fucking with the mythical image you have in your mind - and you're having trouble dealing with it. Have you asked your doctor for sleeping pills yet?

Seriously - why is this is so problematic for you? Is your enjoyment of Prince's past music really enhanced by the knowledge that he was playing everything himself? And have you managed to somehow reconcile his past collaborations, or do you just choose to ignore the plentiful examples of others co-writing, co-producing or playing significant roles on past albums? Did you know he didn't play the solo on "Little Red Corvette" or anything at all on "Power Fantastic", "Sometimes It Snows In April" or "In A Large Room With No Light"? Does that ruin those songs for you?
