Levi Seacer Jr. - It Was Not A Heart Attack - Update

[See my update posted below - luv4u]

Former bassist and electric bass guitarist for Prince from Sign O' The Times to Love Symbol albums suffered a heart attack yesterday during soundcheck for a Shalamar gig. Shalamar broke the news on their Facebook page. For those that don't know Levi Seacer was the bassist for Sheila E from the Glamorous Life and Romance 1600 albums before Prince recruited to Levi to join his band to replace Brown Mark who he let go along with other members of the Revolution sans Dr. Fink. Levi was a mainstay in Prince's camp playing on records for Madhouse 16, Jill Jones debut album, Ingrid Chavez, co-wrote several songs for The Steeles and Prince himself including "Sexy MF". Personally, Levi Seacer's presence in New Power Generation was incredible. Visually, he was the guy with "the blue guitar". I cannot put into words how much Levi Seacer taught me as a listener about musicianship and inspired me to pick up the bass. Get well brother.

Our prayers are with our guitarist Levi Seacer who suffered a heart attack yesterday before soundcheck. We still had a great show dedicated to Levi - to a packed and lively house The Shrine Chicago . ‪#‎Shalamar‬ ‪#‎JodyWatley‬ ‪#‎Reloaded‬ ‪#‎tourlife‬ ‪#‎fanphotos‬ Nate Smith, Jody Watley , Rosero McCoy

Wishing him the best. He comes across as such a likeable guy.

It should also be said he's a guitar player foremost. I remember an interview with him where he recalled telling Prince, "hang on, I'm a guitar player," and Prince replying, "yeah, but do you want to play bass for me?" lol

Great bassist, guitarist, band leader, etc... His presence is missed on record this last 20 years.

Hopes, wishes and prayers go to his full recovery. Get well, Levi!

Get well Levi! I will always remember when I travelled to Oslo in 1988 and ran into you and more band members after the Lovesexy concert...the best concert experience of my life. May God be with you and your family in your healing process.

Hope he recovers quickly. He brought a good deal to Prince's music (& wound up in court for it).

You can search this site, or any number of other sources, but the end result is basically this: In October 1998, Mosely (along with Levi Seacer, Jr.) filed a lawsuit against Prince, claiming that Prince hadn’t shared royalties that Levi and Tony were owed for songs they had co-written for Prince’s NPG Publishing, including "Sexy MF" and "My Name Is Prince". In the end Mosely and Seacer settled for approximately $40,000 each (apparently, not even enough to pay their legal expenses), having sued Prince for $800,000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_M.
