Naah, it's just her way. Besides, she still has the lungs and chops to hit all the right notes. She wasn't drunk...high? hmmm

Neither. She just doesn't know the lyrics and I'd say the majority of the planet doesn't either, until you get to the chorus. She sounded good to me.

Change it one more time..

She seemed kinda uncomfortable singing this song.I think this song is beneath her.I would have liked to hear her sing one of her own great classics.

It looked like she was reading the lyrics from a teleprompter on the floor in front of her, still, her range was phenominal!

Yes, not good when the backup singers know the song better than the lead singer, but CK can sing the friggin' Dollar Menu at McDonald's and make it sound amazing!

And Mr. Letterman also said she will have a new album out in the fall.

(Let's hope it's not a covers album... but I'm anxious to hear what we've waited an ETERNITY (no pun intended) to get!) lol

Neither. This is typical chaka. Whether high or sober she has a notorius rep as being unprofessional - skipping out on rehersals, forgetting the lyrics - to her own songs, and just generally being unprepared. She has often stated the only music she listens to is miles davis and joni mitchell. After years of watching her struggle to sing other peoples songs, i tend to believe it. There is a posted performance on youtube with chaka, george benson and ray charles perfoming "this masqurade". She didnt know the lyrics so george had to whisper them in her ear. And then there is the perfomance with miles davis when she was singing micheal jackson "human nature". She didnt know the words so she took the stage with the lyric sheet in hand. smile there are countless other performances i can name but you get my drift. Typical chaka. But i do agree when you go on letterman and give a sloppy performance doesnt make her look good.

fun fact: the song "It's Raining Men" was offered to several female artists, including Donna Summer,Diana Ross.Cher and even Barbra Streisand, but they all turned it down.

Can you blame them? lol It's a novelty song like "YMCA". Most people don't know the lyrics, only the chorus. I've heard both songs hundreds of times over the years and I don't know one lyrics outside of the chorus. So, I will give C.K. as pass on this one. biggrin I still say, if he didn't do it, out of respect, Paul should have asked Martha Wash to come on the show to perform the song.

I didn't know Paul Shafer wrote it. Or that he could have been George Costanza!

"Shaffer never returned the call which offered him the role of George Costanza in Seinfeld. Shaffer claims he never auditioned for the role, Seinfeld simply called to offer him the job."

An ETERNITY is an understatement! lol And I'm here (not hear lol) to say I saw Chaka perform four years ago and she still has the chops to sing. I so hope a new album comes out or that she come round here to perform again. wink
