Around the World In A Day: A conspiracy against Brown Mark? So... was Brown mark the only member of the band not represented on the cover? If this is true, why the omission? Between the lack of representation on the cover and having no lines in Purple Rain would give anyone a complex I would think
I'm basing this question/assumption on how band members were dressed during the Raspberry Beret video versus the AITWIAD album cover characters.

I always had the impression that the figures on the ATWIAD cover were "mixes" of the real band members. The figure in the long white coat for example has the head of Prince, but the green doctor's suit of Fink. The figure in the blue/white cloud suit amd cloud guitar represented Mark Brown, at least as I interpreted...and than in the Raspberry Beret video, Prince had on the cloud-suit! That was nice about the Purple world back than. Nothing was what it seemed and mystery was the key word. And the psychedelic concept of ATWIAD threw in some extra weirdness. Controversy!

That cloud suite person was BrownMark, Wendy Lisa & BrownMark got Bside photos for Parade though And of course he got more front and center stage presence than those in the back in Purple Rain

yes Mark is the guy with the cloud suit. Real question is why does Prince get three versions of himself.

This video painfully points towards Brown Mark's Purple Rain exclusion at the 1:57 mark
I sense forces at play here

Was that formally confirmed by TPTB? I know you know your stuff but I always suspected that people were speculating on this issue when I received that feedback in the past. [Edited 4/6/15 16:50pm] A robin sings a masterpiece that lives and dies unheard...

Yeah there was some big thing on it, I think by the artist Sheila E is also up there

Brown Mark is noticeably absent from the LRC and 1999 videos, too.

I always thought Brownmark was the one in the white hood, in the upper right of the cover, peeking out between the other two dudes. Make it so, Number One...

0.) Those R 2 Bad A$$ videos 1.) U R not serious 2.) U R going by memory from a long time ago 3.) U just want someone 2 post some pix of BrownMark because 4 BrownMark U Lust Always
4.) Little Red Corvette, BrownMark was spinning up a whirlwind to Prince's right throught the video
5.) BrownMark was the 2nd band member shown in the 1999 video

I always thought that looked like Jesse Johnson

Let's look at this more closely:
1) Lisa Coleman 2) Nasty Ass Prince/Sheila E/Miko??? 3) Wendy Melvoin 4) Bobby Z 5) Dr. Fink 6) Dressed like Prince from Raspberry Beret but Brown Mark??? (outside the suit, does not resemble either person) 7) Prince/Michael Jackson/Brown Mark/Jesse Johnson??? (I suspect Prince but up for debate) 8) ??? 9) ??? 10) The Nipple
Feedback on the character breakdown is welcomed as I merely wish to get to the bottom of the Brown Mark slight that I've addressed at the top of the thread

Who was the artist of the ATWIAD cover? Maybe we can ask the source. Change it one more time..

lol NICE
None of the faces on the bodies look like the actual persons in my opinion 1.) Lisa Coleman's RB outfit definately not her face(she is skilled in string orchastra arrangements though) 2.) Definately Sheila E's Glamorous risque outfit, she had red hair too/so did Suzie(her keyboardist) but the face always reminds me of Vanity 3.) Wendy Melvoins RB outfit, but I originally thought Apollonia's face back in 1985 but I also know Clara Bow(Condition of the Heart) there was some twin Wendy/Susannah connection. The face looks like Clara Bow
4.) Bobby Z RB outfit, and Parade hairstyle, but that face also reminds me of one of Prince's inspirations: Charlie Chapman 5.) Dr Fink outfit forever of course even the hair and shades, but the face is of an aged Prince 6.) Prince's RB outfit, brown man, 7.) I always though Jesse Johnson too 8.) Eddie M? 9.) Jerome Benton? 10.) the girl on the seasaw Prince & Wendy's PR tour outfit, face(Taj Sevelle maybe)

Here's what I found:
https://www.facebook.com/...6576150010
"Illustrator Doug Henders was asked to create the cover art for Around the World in A day shortly before Christmas 1984. He was given a brief 15-point outline from Prince with some ideas of what he wanted graphically. "The process of creating the cover work and the rock trip (Purple Rain tour) itself were very gruelling," says Henders. "I think that's reflected in the melancholic rendering of the painting." Inspiration came from amongs cartoon images and the surrealistic landscapes René Magritte [early twentieth century Belgian surrealist painter] For some of the images, Henders snapped Polaroid photos of Revolution band members and people close to the band. Then he slightly altered the face or real-life features for the painting. "Most of the figures on the cover are characters in the songs, but I think some of the people Prince wanted are parts of himself, so they're all of a piece and somewhat autobiographical," Henders explains. "The little puppy in the picture was added simply because Princ got himself a dog while on the road.""

I remember an interview that BrownMark did in 1987,after he had left the Revolution. He seemed kinda pissed off at his somewhat minimal role in The Revolution. He pointed out that Wendy comes into the band, gets all these lines in Purple Rain and is suddenly a star, appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone with Prince. He also said that in 1986,Stevie Nicks offered him "three times what I making in The Revolution" to join her band, but he stayed and did the Parade tour anyway (out of loyalty)

at people being so literal. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
