Is Liv Warfield's album criminally slept on or is it just me? She is what Tamar should have been. A real black woman singing like a woman doing some real grown folks music - one listen to Soul Lifted makes that all too clear. Dont Say Much is my fav on the album - the fact that is should have a Prince guitar solo nags at me like one of those sorry ass animal abuse commercials. |

Yes, criminally slept on. I don't know if Tamar was just too young at the time to have good artistic direction or what, but both Liv's and Judith's albums are banging. Even Andy and Bria's albums were better than Tamar's, but its hard for me to pinpoint why hers fell so flat (outside of the 2-3 decent tracks on it). Change it one more time.. |

Liv is getting lots of love on the touring circuit, in articles and even a handful of music awards, so SHE is getting some attention, though the CD itself may not be. open yo mind, the entire universe you'll find

I've said this in another thread....
A female artist working with Prince these days is most likely gonna get ignored by the masses.I know it's unfair but it's true.People roll their eyes at these types of projects. They assume that Prince is still doing his "sleep-with-me-and-I'll-produce-an-album-for you" routine. These ladies aren't taken seriously.Like I said,it's very unfair and unfortunate.Sheila E. was truly the last "successful" female Prince protege but that was in the 80s...a long time ago! |

and if Judith allows herself to become "just another Prince protege",she too won't last long, either. |

This isnt really a Prince issue, this is a modern music industry issue. Most artists don't last (if they even make it) unless they're in good with major lables. Given that she's not in good with a major at the moment, she doesnt have much opportunity other than trying to generate grassroot interest, which she might be able to do quite easily given she's a talented live performer. Change it one more time.. |

U are off base thinking that this is a Prince issue.
This is an exposure/marketing issue in my opinion. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent. |

Unfortunately because of her record label legal problems at the moment, Im not sure when it'll finally get a legal release. Change it one more time.. |

THe number of people who even recall that stigma on Prince has dwindled substanially over 3 decades. Now I would attribute it to the level of noise in the market - there is alot more competition out there. If you are a female act, you usually have to whore yourself out to get attention (ie Beyonce, Nicki, Rhinanna) and your vocal skills are a secondary concern. Prince actually works the other way: vocal skill and musical substance is the priority and he now shuns the the superficial piumping of the feminine sex appeal that made Vanity and Apollonia. Sheila E. was the perfect combination of this 2 elements: masterful musician and sexy as hell - and it is the reason she still has a highly respected career. I think that Liv and Judith are a strong return to this formula for Prince. |

How do you feel about Jonelle Monae? I think Prince has about the same number or songs on Jonelle's cd as he does Liv and Judith. |

Well she is not doing anything with it. No touring, no cd in stores, who knows about it outside of this diehard site and half of them probably don't care. She really should have toured and pushed this album so in answer to your question I don't think people are sleeping on it I just think noone knows about and that fault falls on her and Prince but mostly her because she should be out there promoting it. Noone knows who she is. The people who know her and have her CD knows how good it is. I think its the best album to come from a Prince label. The album is on fire and it could be successful but not with their word of mouth living on the coatails of Prince promotion strategy. [Edited 4/9/15 12:43pm] |

She's been playing. She announces her shows in twitter & FB. I don't see much of them mentioned here. She just got back from Japan. And now she's headed to the Nice Jazz Festival in France. And then the Musicology Festival in Serbia. Change it one more time.. |

HOw is it Prince's fault? (though I dont believe there is automatically always someone's fault or even something to blame on someone all the time as it seems to go on this site) |

I thought there was 1 Prine song on Monet's record but he didnt exec produce the entire album as he did for Liv |

My apologies to you. Certainly I missed the decree sent by you that you have the right to judge who is a real black person. I wouldn't dare deny anyone to have the misguided opinion on what a "real black woman". No point in arguing with a fool because even crazy folks think what they say is sane. I have a right to my opinion - and that is the word I used. I never said decree - you want to make it a decree so you can pontificate. Problem is that you have to base that on truth if you are going to step to someone you dont know and it happens to be me. I am too intelligent for you to get twisted. In 5 decades of being black, I have developed an acute understanding of what makes a real black woman and I am not obligated to compromise that because someone lacks the capacity to comprehend a concept that is always - to some degree or another - subject to interpretation. I have mine and I stated it bodly. If you even have one, you plainly lacked the intestinal fortitude to do the same and opted for an unprovoked attack on mine. By resorting to name calling, it might be said that you simply further invalidate yourself in a public forum. So I will give you this decree since you want one: the problem here is not mine. |
