I want the NPG back!!! 3rdeyedgirl is ok, but they aren't close to the musicianship of the old NPG. Rhonda, John Blackwell, Renetto and the hornz are at another level, maybe with the exception of Ida. She kills it on the bass. Hopefully this is just a faze?!?!

You realize this will now lead to a rash of "I want the Revolution Back!" threads
I guess I'll need to buck the trend and support your thread until I can craft my own "Bring back the Rebels!" thread A robin sings a masterpiece that lives and dies unheard...

I couldnt agree more - that NPG lineup is far and away the best Prince band of all times. Having Renato on keys and BLackwell on drums simply blowsevery band out of the water and makes 3rdeye look like a little more than a joke

The best band he ever had: Sheila E, Eric Leeds, Atlanta Bliss, Boni Boyer, Dr Fink, Miko Weaver and Levi Seacer Jr.... No contest in my mind. But I prefer pretty much any band he has had to 3rdeyegirl.

Well there's no doubt that 3rdeyegirl limit what he can play, but a lot of fans wanted a more stripped back guitar orerated sound. So you can see why he formed the band.I was hoping he would tour with a bit of both.Saying that though he can do both sides with just the npg.

it's not really the band that's the problem. it's the material he chooses to play with them. they can not play funk at all. the guitarist isn't funky and the drummer is not versatile at all. if he played their new material as well as rock oriented old material it would work and (real) fans would did their show. Example:
I'm Yours
Covers:
but i guess hits pay the bills. smh

THe reason the NPG was my fav lineup was because Prince was the only guitar in it.

Earlier NPG He had Levi Seacer on Guitar, then Mike Scott

I really liked that NPG lineup with Renato, John and Rhonda but I prefer the "original" NPG lineup with Sonny Thompson, Michael Bland and Morris Hayes and Tommy. Now THAT was a versatile and tight band!

They have not made it over here yet. I listened to the album. It has guitar, but not really rock. Slashes World on Fire, is a rock album, "25 Years to Life" is a rock song. "White Caps" and "Boy Trouble" are not.
