Funk is Bass and Drum driven, not a bunch of airy synths. i love those songs but the are not funk. and 2 songs do not make you a funk artist.

The entire second album is funk. In the pocket drumming and bass lines is a part of funk.

Who does not know this?

Is the minneapolis sound not an 80's take on funk? Synths replacing horns and a certain leaning into the beat to make it their own? Why can things not evolve a bit? It's not like funk in 1969 sounded the same as funk in 1975.

Prince's "D.M.S.R." features airy synths....are you saying that's not funk,either?

And all of those Time songs feature lots of bass and drums.....listen to the second album again!! That is pure FUNK....Minneapolis-style!

FAKE or CRITICIZE ain't FUNK? What else is it? COUNTRY, ALTERNATIVE PUNK? Maybe CLASSICAL or OPERA?? shrug

.

Honestly, FUNK is a feeling and it lives in many forms, inter alia in music. You can find it in ELECTRO, in HOUSE, TECHNO, POP, ROCK, R&B etc.. And mostly, it appears just when you didnt expect it! Btw., FUNK is ALIVE & KICKIN'! Who told you it is dead?! Go out, search for it and you will find!

.

PEACE!

"a few funky songs"? The Time were a *funk band*.If you can't hear the funk in songs like "Get It Up","777-9311" and "The Bird",then something is seriously wrong with you.

If we're gonna get bogged down with labels I'm stating that The Time were a New Wave Funk Pop band.

finally a voice of reason!!!!!!!

having funky songs does not make one funk artist. i would even go out on a limb and say there are very few funk artist. james brown had some funky songs but he was not a funk artist.

No, they didn't. A large percentage of their later output is really close to disco. There's plenty of more typical R&B on the earlier Parliament records and even some country & western stuff.

Yep. That's some "pure funk" there, alright.

Your comment about James Brown makes me think you haven't even really listened to his albums from the late-60s onwards.

It's obvious that you're trying to appear knowledgeable in our eyes when you're just confused about what you are trying to say. People doing different types of songs does not disqualify them from being an artist of a certain genre if their contributions to the genre have been substantial enough.

Use some goddamn common sense.
