Tony M greatness | |

Unlike some here, I really liked Tony M and what he brought to the fold. He was a fun dancer with the Gameboyz and he made a very good album (Goldnigga) which I still enjoy.
I loved hiphop and rap music, I was one of those fans who loved that Prince dove into the hip-hop world for a minute.
AND he was sexy... and I like the Goldnigga album. Personally I never met the guy, and those feelings should be seperate from how he is looked at IMHO. I can't speak on something I don't know.

Tony M is much missed in Prince circles around here. Just imagine him rhymin' with 3rdeyegirl or showin' 'that' flow over Art Official Age ... Such a loss.
In all honesty, Tony M was the Lennon to Prince's McCartney.
Y'all youngsters are too young t'understand

Uh yeah they do, Carmen Electric is not received well at all lol And Robin Powers was such a blip on the radar...
Sheila E was hot it wasn't rap rap it was Purple Music

Agreed! I could forgive Sheila for trying to rap, because she was so fun and brought so much to the stage that we didn't care too much.
I never understood the hate Tony M got, or the raps in some of the songs. I liked Prince's sampling with hip-hop. It made me respect Prince more as an artist that he could try different genres of music and blend it effortlessly into his own and make it new.

Unless this thread is some sort of ironic humor I don't understand, it's about as wrong as can be. I have no idea what type of human being Tony is, but that no talent ass clown never should have been in the band.
Not only does he not have tons of muli platinum albums, he doesn't even have one recorded song officially released on a label.
The image of him, Damon, and Kirk wearing those silly Star Trek Next Generation uniforms dancing around, and Tony shouting at the top of his lungs, rapping about manure on My Name Is Prince... forever is a sore point in Prince's history.

I liked Carmen but not Robin. I like Tony on studio songs but it was torture when it was live.

I honestly have seen folks on here actually like those women rapping... Carmen Electra had a small following...
I also want to add, when people liked Robin Power's rapping it was usually on a thread she posted on, and the poster also went on about how sexy she was and a great painter too...
Seriously. I kid you not.

This may be the general feel of how most people feel about Tony M... but most rappers sound like shit live, all out of breath, sloppy on the mike, forgetting lyrics. Back in the day, it happened more often than not, this is why most smart rappers had a hype man who would jump around and dancers putting in work, while the rapper stood there and did his thing. Tony M was jumping around and dancing up a storm then trying to rap... and yeah, he would be out of breath. I still think he did wayy better than a always sloppy Bobby Brown. He stayed out of breath since day one.
Some of my favorite rappers were sloppy live, Missy Elliot, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes... many more. Still love their work studio work.
