Sheila E. Book Signing at Barnes and Nobles in NYC

I went to the Book signing on Jan 2nd for Sheila E's first book "The Beat of My Own Drum" at Barnes and Nobles New York City.It was great. She did a Q and A.I asked several questions.I asked her if Hollywood makes a movie about her life, who would like to see play you. Her answer was they are already in talks to do a movie 2 years ago and she had 2 fell known candidates to play her but she would not tell us who. She then asked us would we choose to play Sheila E. People Shouted Jennifer Lopez,Esplanade Spaulding(Sheila liked that choice)I shouted as a joke Rihanna only because a fee years ago I saw in concert and try to sing The Glamorous Life and she tried to play the timbales. I then asked her about the time when she was playing for Diana Ross and Diana Ross had her problem what she wore and Sheila walked away from that gig and I asked was it in the book and yes it is.I then asked her did she have any future plans to work with
Prince again she said if God wants her to .(which I thought was little strange)
I then ask her when she was signing my book,That every time I saw live that I was praying that perform "Hold me",She said she does not perform that song live anymore.I wish I could post some of the pics up but I do not know how from my
cell.

on here with my cell phone. Then last night I walked into my house and turned on the radio to WBLS Listening To Quiet Storm With Lenny Green
from my cell phone. It was a great experience though.

lol Funny how I find that response to be very reminiscent of how Prince would respond to it.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I just thought it was her polite way of not revealing "yay" or "nay" to the question.
She politely told another woman who asked her if she had spoken with Prince about how he remembered some of the things in her book, that it wasn't about him- it's her life recollection.

I love it! Basically a polite translation of: "I don't give a damn about what he thinks and while I'm more than sure he would prefer that I NOT tell stories about us from the past, times have changed....it's about what I want to do, not what he wants...but if he has an issue with it, he got my number and he'll get a royal cursing out if he tries me cuz I'm not the one". lol

I feel like out of all of Prince's women (wives, girlfriends, mistresses, whatever) that Sheila is the one who probably told him like it was and had a backbone. I'd love to had been a fly on the wall during their arguments. lol

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

So I bought the book Saturday and read the whole thing in 7 hours, lol I just couldn't put it down. All I could think after reading was "wow, she really has gone through a hell of lot"...and she really has. I'm so glad that she has come to terms with the awful child abuse she encountered as a young girl. And to overcome all of that to become what she is known to us today is simply amazing.

I couldn't help but to chuckle and to smile as I read how madly in love she fell for Prince. He surely is the ultimate seducer...not that we didn't know that already about him...but I could only imagine looking into those magnetic eyes of his. I guess Jaime Foxx was really right, don't look into Prince's eyes unless you want to be hypnotized by his sexiness. lol It's also interesting how she fell for and dated Carlos Santana when he was married as the day is long. And there were absolutely no clues whatsoever? I mean she did say that when she would go to his house there weren't any pictures up or anything like that. I don't know, I'm still a little confuse Her father worked for Carlos and as she said her family was very close to him, but even still there wasn't even a mention or a clue that he was married?

Another confusing notion is the whole marriage proposal thing Prince did during one of their performances. Now I'm guessing (but I'm thinking that I'm right), during the time period that Sheila mentions she and Prince's love affair, has to be during the same time that he was involved with and possibly engaged to Susannah, Wendy's twin sister. I can understand on the surface why Sheila and Prince's romance was under wraps, but I still, in a way, don't get it. We know that P is fiercly private, that's a given, but even with some of his ladies, there was some indication of who he was dating at some point over the years...Susannah, Nona Gaye, Mayte, Carmen Elecktra, Vanity, Kim Basinger, etc. We know that Prince has a high respect for Sheila because out of all of his proteges, she's the one who can match him to a tee in talent, and challenge him so if he had that much respect for her, then why wasn't Sheila the one he wanted to publically show that he was romantically with? I dunno, I just hate secret romantic relationships period. It always makes me feel like the one who is all gung ho and crazy in love agreeing to keep the secret is the one who is being made a fool out of.

I also wasn't aware that she did a reality show, Gone Country. I hadn't even heard of it before! But I love how she carefully weighed her options before doing it and not down for agreeing to appear on some reality show that lowers her dignity. It shows how much she respects her career. It just comes to show how stupid Mayte makes herself look on the Hollywood Exes show. disbelief

Overall, the book was a great read though. She should really do a part 2 and include details of her post-Prince career. I know she did mention in it in this book but it seems after she chose to leave Prince's camp, she did an overview of all the projects she was involved in since then...it would be great to know those details as well. thumbs up!

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
