Wax Poetics interview with Jimmy Jam (Part 2)

This interview is quite fascinating and sheds a lot more light on the history of Flyte Tyme (the band), The Time and early Flyte Tyme (Jam/Lewis) productions. Always nice to see how humble Jam is towards his own abilities and giving credit to other MPLS musicians (including generous nods to P and Sonny T and several others). A few tidbits... Monte Moir sang some lead vocals with Flyte Tyme. An established band on A&M had a lead singer that Flyte Tyme was going to produce solo work for (A&R for A&M had specifically picked Jam/Lewis) -- she decided she didn't want them (curious who she/they were -- Jam wouldn't identify them). Great read.

it's Sharon Bryant of Atlantic Starr. She was preparing her solo album at that time wink Some of the songs that J&L came up with for Sharon were later given to Janet Jackson.

indeed! lol I can't believe she turned down the chance to work with them. She sealed her fate with that crazy decision. Her solo career has been largely uneventful.
