Brenda Bennett's dance single "Guiltier"----she should do an entire album like this

It's nice to see Brenda back on the scene with new music."Guiltier" is a great dance track.Wouldn't it be cool if Brenda did an entire album like this.....a pulsing, relentless dance album geared to the clubs?

She's got some pretty cool videos posted on her youtube!! I Knew she had put a few things out, but never really thought of checking her music out.

It's kind of a trip to hear a VERY recognizable voice to these songs.. I like it! I see her material is also on Spotify. I think I may have to give it a listen!

Some of those songs are country music. She seems to be a very diverse artist.I'd love for her to put together a solo album.Unlike some of the other female Prince protégés,she can really sing.

Brenda sounds like a cross between Cher and Lady Ga Ga. I can imagine this track being on Lady Ga Ga's next album.

I think Brenda would be a very convincing dance music diva, like Cher and Madonna. She can pull this off. She's got the voice wink

neutral I still think that from a marketing POV those dance tracks are a VERY bad move from Brenda. If she digs that kind of stuff and wants to do it 4 fun then OK, but if the purpose is to give her some kind of visibility or commercial appeal, I think it's a terrible mistake. This kind of music is usually supported by big majors money and that's what it takes to hit the target audience (mainstream listeners, usually either teens or casual listeners 4 whom music is a minor hobby and who will take whatever they're being fed by mainstream medias). Un4tunately Brenda is an independent artist releasing her music thru independent labels. It's very unlikely that this song will ever be played on mainstream radio stations or music TV channels à la MTV because they won't even be aware of its existence in the first place, because there's no major marketing support behind it to make it "big", have the artist do some TV shows/talk shows, etc.

So where do we go from here? A indie artists and indie labels usually aim to reach those people who listen to indie music, whatever the genre. It can be hipsters, people who r passionate about music and always roaming online for new discoveries or people who are totally into a niche genre (or the underground side of any particular genre such as underground hip-hop). The problem is that none of the above will be interested in that kind of waaaay-too-radio-friendly songs. Never. There IS a HUGE underground scene for electronic dance music (I should know, I'm totally into it) but it doesn't sound at all like what's on the radio and that's what makes it appealing to its audience, who's more into electronica, house music, nu-disco, synthpop, whatever... There's no underground subgenre for "commercial dance music", or u need to compensate your lack of musical audacity by being extremely controversial in terms of lyrics and/or image (Amanda Lepore, Brooke Candy) if u wanna get the attention of hipsters, but even though I haven't paid attention to the lyrics it doesn't seem to me that Guiltier is X-rated.

So in the end while Brenda was perfectly entitled to hope and get the attention of numerous country fanatics with her previous project, she won't go anywhere with doing what she now does because her target audience is out of reach and the reacheable audience is simply not interested.

So of course that leaves her with what actually constitutes the biggest part of most of prince's ex-associates' audience: us the fans. From what I could read on this forum it seems that about 30% to 50% of us are passionate music listeners and the other 50% to 70% are casual listeners who actually enjoy what's on the radio and have little knowledge of non-mainstream music. So yeah maybe with us fans she'll be able to sell a few dozen thousands of digital copies of those singles. But then maybe she better do some electrofunk or IDK, to reach even more of us?

But as I said earlier maybe she just has fun doing those songs and doesn't give a fuck about the money or fame they'll generate, and in that case God bless her smile

Sorry, sounds like gazillions of other autotune crap.

Plus she doesn't have the Rihanna or Gaga looks, sorry to say.

One or two thoughts about your target audience might be a good idea.

I really loved what she did on the V6/A6 songs, but this one...meh.

She has a very good Voice, She said Prince wanted to do more with her after A6 but got really caught up in so many other things. Jesse Brenda and a few others he should have held onto

Put Brenda in the studio with a producer like Stuart Price or Giorgio Moroder, and I bet the results would be interesting.
