Meshell Ndegeocello @OfficialMeshell 22m One should never air dirty laundry but sure is funny how the world works and how perceptions often trump truth
Meshell Ndegeocello @OfficialMeshell 21m And even the truth is murky water ...

First, I'll post the same reply that I posted in the other thread...
Ouch...
Someone on her page replied, "did he tweet it"?
Even her own fans are questioning why she wanna pull out this old ass beef now?
2002? Really Meshell?
Secondly, I don't get who you guys think of as associated artists because you always seem to throw in any and everybody who even so much as breathes Prince's name.
Putting Meshell in this forum would be like putting Carlos Santana in here. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise. |

I don't blame her at all for being salty about it. She has never done anything to him. Prince should just worry about his own career rather than critisizing hers. You all can attack me now for crisizing your hero who can do no wrong but she is not in the wrong here. Meshell has much respect from me and always has. |

Idk, I see the point, People will react to Prince new WB agreement because for so long he demonized them and tried to get people to help him in his 'Emancipation' I mean that whole album is a reminder of his war with WB |

So THAT makes 2 reasons why Prince never (?) performs anything from the Emancipation album:
1. It reminds him of happier times with Mayte.
2. It reminds him of his war with Warner Bros. |

Tsk Tsk my ass. I'm sure the terms he entered with Warner brothers now is far more favorable than how he entered in the past so what is her point? Although I never support name calling but still. |

Naawww he throws a lot of shade in interviews
she did do shows of his songs, she respects him, but I guess it can come off confusing that 'yes' he demonized WB and now he's back in bed with them.

I'm having a hard time believing that Prince actually stood in her face and called her that.
It's more likely that he threw some indirect shade by making a general statement like he did with the "master owns you" thing, for example, that she may have taken personally.
I mean, if I put myself in her place I have to think that at the very least I would have put a good 'ol North Philadelphia cussin' on his ass, and it sure as hell would not have taken me 12 years to speak up.

I guess all that "slave" analogy he was throwing around back then did NOT sit well with lots of people. I understand. That was definitely cringe-worthy. Though I generally loved the '90s era - the music, not all the other stuff going on. |

People like to think they'd be that direct with Prince. Unless you want to move to the outer circle fast ..that probably don't happen. |

Speaking for myself I don't even have to think about it. Like Prince, I don't care about being in anyone's circle....like him, I create my own circle, maybe it's a Gemini thing,
Getting back to Meshell, I'm surprised that she didn't address it way back in 2002 since much of her writing seems very confrontational to me. I can only surmise that since he is such an inspiration of hers perhaps she gave him a pass?
With that said I still doubt that he actually stood in her face and said those exact words.

Meshell needs to decide whether she admires Prince or has no respect for him already. She performed a Prince song only show here in NYC a few years back and still seemed to have some issues with him. Pick a side and stay there already.
Doesn't follow. One can admire his music and still be critical of things that he says or does outside the creative process.
Anyway, she's just pointing out Prince's hypocrisy. ...every night another symphony... |
