Is 3rdeyegirl the best live Prince band ever? They are, aren't they? They have taken old songs and "infused" them with new life. Can't wait for the new LP.

Close but NPG 93-95 is the best for me. Michael B, Sonny T, Tommy B, Mr. Hayes and you can add Levi in there as well

To soon to tell. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Don't feel they are worthy of that title personally. I do enjoy the rock edge they bring but best is a strong comment I can't agree with at this point.

Not until the drummer learns how to keep a beat.

Revolution, 87-88 band blow them out of the water. As does One Nite Alone band. I'd say early NPG too once the Game Boyz were ejaculated from the scene. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

I do know the original meaning of the word ejaculate (its constant use in Sherlock Holmes stories definitely adds to the perceived homoerotic nature of Holmes' and Watson's relationship), but even so the image that that conjured in my head made me wince.
In reply to the OP's question, I think most of Prince's other bands are probably better than 3rdeyegirl. I mean, they do the stripped down rock sound well, but I think it's hard to deny that Prince has had far more talented musicians in the past, with whom he has coalesced better as a band. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

You're a few days late for April's fools, but nice try.

The band is skilled for sure, especially Ida, I love her in the band -- but as a band they are far from the greatness the former NPG bands had, Prince 4Ever.

^ Haha, you are great, NouveauDance. Prince 4Ever.

You know, I've listened to shows from just about all of this eras, if musicians spend enough time around Prince they consistently get better and better. Even Josh & Cora put on a mean stripped down show that would be in his top 40 ever. I saw give these guys a little more time and we'll see. I already notice a difference in sound from both Hannah & Donna (who were the two weak links) in their recent shows compared to the shows from the first mini-US west coast tour. If this band survives another couple of years they might come close to a "best of" title. Change it one more time..

No I don't think so. He's had many other, better bands through the years, but I think right now he could use a better/more experienced drummer, especially since over the years he has always had one. This isn't a diss towards his current band, but more or less, constructive criticism.

Yeah going the rock edge is cool, but I can't say they are the greatest band out of all the bands he has had, because he has hard more skilled band members prior to this current trio.

I have only been able to find the 2 shows of theirs so far so I don't have a lot to base them on. These boots are IMPOSSIBLE to find now thanks to Prince. I really like the two shows I have heard alot!! The only weakness to me in the band is the drummer. So far I am not impressed with her compared to Michael B or John Blackwell. I LOVE Donna and Ida though!! Overall I am REALLY DIGGIN this new band but the ORIGINAL NPG is still my favorite band but this style of music that Prince is playing with this band is my favorite of his career though.

Too early to tell. They're good and I dig them, but when I see them live I will answer that question!

They've been working with P for 18 months and they still suck -- especially the drummer, but also the guitar player, and as band they just suck.
Meanwhile, Wendy's first gig was the one where P recorded Purple Rain. And whilst I don't care for the D&P era NPG, they were a damn good band, and they turned into a great band in 1994/95, especially when they got down to the power trio. Lovesexy band was just insane. I don't like to compare the bands. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I think 3rd eye girl is ok but I agree with you...I miss the NPG...Sonny T and Michael B. Who I met years ago( one of the nicest guys around) I even miss dare I say the three bozos dancing. It seemed like such a good lineup with personality. 3rd eye girl seems to be missing something...that je. ne sais quoi [Edited 4/20/14 15:15pm]
