Sure, y not?

The 4 songs P gave Sheena were particularly good IMHO, but the thing is that she hasn't released an album in 14 years. But maybe if she ever does a come back album? I think they remained in good terms.

As for Jill it's seems she's totally pissed at P so it's HIGHLY unlikely, + he tends to avoid working with anyone from the early years save Sheila.

Prince hasn't forgotten the things Jill Jones has said about him on social media and he is the type to hold grudges. Even for the Purple Rain Deluxe remaster, he may not include "Wednesday", if it means, Jill Jones can't get any shine from the campaign. So for me, no, because they had their time in the sunshine.

I don't think P thinks that way: it's HIS song and Jill was acting as HIS employee doing what HE told her to do. That's usually how he saw things when it came to side projects: whatever their contribution, even vocal, it's just about playing an instrument on a Prince record in the end. When(ever) he will remaster and rerelease Jill Jones (the album) he's not gonna wonder twice whether it profits Jill or not or whether she agrees or not. He certainly didn't when he sent her a C&D to remove the Mia Bocca music video from HER OWN Myspace page a few years back. Jill Jones' voice on his music is part of HIS creative process. Period.

U R right, but that is so wacky.

.

But that seems more 'personal' because Sheila E has gotten passes on doing a lot of that stuff

That example of the Myspace page sounds like a grudge

.

I really wonder how that works legally. For so long Prince hasn't owned his masters of those songs, so technically they are not his. And WB could have anyone sing/perform them if they wished?

Wowowowowow, u're mixing everything.

1. For one thing Prince owns Jill Jones' masters since 1994, since they reverted back to him alongside the rest of the Paisley Park catalogue. So technically (or more accurately, legally, they've been his for 20 years).

2. Even if WB had owned the masters, though, Prince could still have had the song removed from Jill's page on the ground that neither Myspace nor Jill was paying him the royalties he's entitled to ask for every public airing/streaming of a song he wrote.

3. Back to masters ownership, u can bet that the few side projects whose masters belonged to WB reverted to P alongside the rest of his catalogue: he wouldln't have let go of them.

4. Jill Jones could challenge Prince's ownership of "her" album in 2022 (35 years after release), but at best she'd get a co-ownership of the songs with Prince and, of course, her 2 non-Prince b-sides: not worth the risk of a legal battle I think.

5. I have to admit I am quite shocked by your last statement. Considering the hundreds of threads that have covered those technicalities, you of all people should know the difference between owning masters and publishing rights. ANYONE can have ANYONE sing/perform ANY song at ANY time as long as they pay royalties to the publishing rights owners, while owning masters gives you no specific privilege except those of being able to use the masters you own.

I really not that seriously invested in this

And I did not make a statement, I asked a question? Which means I'm not to up and up on those things, which means I'm asking for someone to share their knowledge with me. Is that so shocking? Why would U assume that 'of all people' that I should know all about that?

No I don't think mods read all the threads. I read what I'm interested in, and scan according to moderations needs-not educational

My take is that Jill is either on meds now or is just not angry with him anyore because she seems calm in recent months. I dont think P would want to work with her anymore though, although I'd like to see it. Sheena would be nice too. She'd probably jump at the opportunity since he hasn't done anything in ages either, but who knows if time has been kind on her voice.

Change it one more time..
