Jesse Johnson hates the Original 7ven album? It's at the 93:50 mark when Jesse trashes the album and says the album wasn't good enough to have the name The Time. the player is right below where it says "the best in r & B and vintage classic soul music"

I would agree with him. | |

It is the 3rd best of the Time albums. It would rank above 2 of his solo projects.

I agree. This album is better than Ice Cream Castles and the unfocused Pandemonium.

I never really liked it so I'd say Jesse has a point A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I TOTALLY and COMPLETELY agree with Jesse on this one. The Original 7 album didn't deserve to be called a Time album. As much as i love and respect the Time i couldn't even purchase this album and it hurt me that i couldn't. I just felt like there was too much talent in that band to produce that weak of a project, that actually kinda sounded like older cats pandering to the young people. I was expecting all the way live band cuts as opposed to synths and drum machines and if you're gonna go that route, at least give it a live "feel" like Jesse did on his criminally underrated Verbal Penetration. Pandemonium was a better album. Like i said all that talent should've yielded greater results.

Yep. | |

Sorry, Jesse. I like the new record and think its worthy. For what its worth, I think Verbal Penetration is a better overall record, but I still like Condensate.

Here's something to keep in mind: in a late-1986 interview,Jesse Johnson referred to Prince's Parade album as "garbage"
"Did you hear all the garbage that Prince is playing?",Johnson asked."No wonder you hear all this talk about him starting over with a new band"----Jesse Johnson in Rock N' Soul magazine,1986

When Jesse is pissed about something,he can be brutal,as you can see

The CD was good but it didn't show the growth of the 7 individuals involved in making it. It came across as if they followed a blueprint of what they should do as opposed to what they could do. [Edited 2/18/14 18:26pm] When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Would the public accept anything different from 07/The Time? Fans know them as the good time cool playboys. Nobody would accept them doing an album based on today's sound. Strawberry Lake, Trending, and If I Was Your Man is their identity. Why would they try to be something they aren't and piss fans off? Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Exactly.I think, for the most part, they kept it real and stayed true to their identity. There are moments on the album (such as "Toast To The Party Girl") that take you right back to their past, and it feels good to revisit that era.

I think Jesse has a point. Having been a fan since the first Time album I expected more. But I didn't dislike either. It's too bad Prince didn't want to get involved. It was a solid album though. Love God and I shall 4ever Love u

I love the fellas, I dug the majority of the last lp, had everything crossed hoping to get to see them in london again... Loved Jesse's lp too. "We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

I enjoyed "Condensate" at the time, but it doesn't have a great deal of replay value for me. Nowhere near as much as any other Time records, or Jesse's solo records, or Jam & Lewis's production classics.
When you consider the people who made it, then that's not really acceptable. Based on their track records, I expect more from Jam & Lewis, I expect more from Jellybean, I expect more from Monte Moir, I expect more from Jesse. You know what I mean? There's a communication breakdown somewhere with this band. The fDeluxe album was better, and I think it's because fDeluxe as a group of people get along much better and have a healthier workflow process. |

That's why it is not a Time album, it sounds nothing like The Time. And what I absolutly hate about Pandemonium are all the non-Prince tracks, they simply DO NOT BELONG. I just barely consider Pandemonium a The Time Album. The only stand out tracks are Jerk Out and Chocolate, the rest are just run of the mill stuff anybody could whip up for any album. But those two actually SOUND like true The Time tracks. True Time tracks are written and produced by Prince, anything else is just something else, good or bad or whatever, just not The Time.

I disagree.I think "Jerkout" is the only great Prince-produced track on Pandemonium. Most of the other tunes he submitted ("Data Bank","My Summertime Thang") are not very good. These are just throwaway jams that he recorded years earlier and should have kept in the vault."Chocolate" is OK,but sounded horribly dated in 1990.
The best tracks on the album are "Jerkout" and two non-Prince tracks,"It's Your World" and the title track. Those three tunes should have been the singles.

and this may come as a shock,but...
I think the Ice Cream Castles album is sorta weak.It lacks focus and sounds messy throughout. The title track doesn't even feel like a Time song...it's too light and pop-ish."Chili Sauce" is obvious filler...."If The Kid Can't Make You Come" is silly and goes on too long.....if it wasn't for "Jungle Love" and "My Drawers" (two good songs),I wouldn't even pull this record out and play it.
I think the departure of Jam and Lewis and the filming of the movie, distracted Prince somewhat.Seems like he wasn't able to devote enough time to this project.

Well Ice Cream Castles(and the Apollonia 6 album) were basically a way to capitalize on the movie. They could've just as easily put the two Time tracks & Sex Shooter on Purple Rain and called it a true soundtrack. Both albums feel rushed or cobbled together looking back at them but they worked well at the time they were released. I don't think Jam & Lewis would've made it better since it was still mainly a Prince driven project. They probably wouldn't have benefitted from the movie anymore than St.Paul or Jerry Hubbard(no lines and minimal face time).

Jam & Lewis produced "Jerkout".Jesse is one of favorite artist. I'm disappointed with his comments. I think his comments are sad and silly. It sounds like he is taking a shot at his former band mates. Condensate is a very good album. I'm happy it was released. O7 did not put the effort into promoting the album the way a young hungry band would have.

'It's your world' is my tune, the best track on Pandemonium IMO. 'Databank' is one of my favourite boot tracks, possibly even in my top 10 & shoulda got an official release IMO .
