They most definately created a good CD without Prince, better than most of Prince's recent stuff but they failed working together as a band after. Jesse has issues its also clear that to both Jesse and Jellybean it was not communicated to them that Morris, Jimmy and Terry had no interest in the project after that, as far as promoting and touring. There also seem to be ego clashes. I saw Morris Day and the Time two weeks and the show was terrible. Morris is literally sleepwalking through the songs and the band is so off. It was hard to watch. I believe that Morris Day has no interest in doing any other act with same songs, than what he's been doing for 30 years. I love the Time but just as Prince gets criticized, its funny how folks who criticize him are quick to make up excuses when drama occurs between associated artists. that's just my observation. For some reason I can't get the thing to play so I can't really comment on what Jesse said. I really like the 07 cd. Is it What Time is it? No, but nothing is. I rank Sick and If I was yo man up there with anything the've ever done. Was the project a sucess? Depends on your perspective. Would I have liked to see the fellas do a normal tour and promote the album, maybe do another record. You bet. I was disappointed when it just came and went. So where the guys in the band, but now I look back in hindsite at the positives.
We got an album I had never seen the original line up live, but I got to see 10 shows when they got back together and they were incredible. Plus very cool things like full length concert sound checks where they did songs that didn't make it into the live show. I got to meet Terry, Jimmy Jam and Jesse and get stuff signed and pictures taken with the band.
And there was other stuff that I can't even mention, but as a fan of the band for 30 years it was a dream come true.
So yeah they could have done more, but what they did do was awesome.

First off I've seen Morris Day & The Time 3 or 4 times so how is that wanting Morris to fail? The Original 7ven don't need Prince at all but they do need a real manager not a band member with conflicting interests to their group interests. Fdeluxe made it all the way to Carnegie Hall under the new name. They've played numerous gigs around the world and released multiple CD's and videos. They're past the past and focused on the future. Also I bought Condensate twice(iTunes and physical). Also check out the thread with Morris' interview. His words speak volumes. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Did you really believe that an 80s funk band could release a new CD in 2011,sell millions of copies, have numerous hit singles and massive success? Like I said before,it was never gonna be like 1983 again, even if Jesse had stayed in the band and they did a tour.I don't think I need to tell you this, but the music industry is ALOT different than it was in the 80s.Hell,even Prince's own recent CDs don't make much of an impact these days. The way I see it...I got a great CD from one of my favorite bands and I can enjoy it for the rest of my life.Yes,a tour would have been icing on the cake, but I'll take what I can get.

I agree I don't even take Jesse's comments seriously because, like I pointed out earlier,he has a long history of trash-talking and behaving like a drama queen when things don't go his way.Condensate is a brilliant album and I still play it regularly.

Micki Free is a good guitarist.Back in the mid-80s,he and Prince became good buddies and they used to jam together. There was alot of talk back then about Prince wanting Micki to quit his gig in Shalamar and join the Prince camp.No doubt,he would have fit perfectly in The Time.Jesse is great, but Micki plays a mean guitar too.

In almost any band, there are gonna be issues. You mentioned "ego clashes" and you are correct. The Original7 were bound to have some problems because their situation was complex from the beginning. But let's not act as if Prince is the glue that could have kept them together.Look at all the drama that he has had with his own bandmembers thoughout the years.Notice how, after the Time broke up in 1984,he was never really able to keep any of his other protege bands together (The Family,Mazarati, etc).Ask yourself why. You're criticzing the Original7 for not being able to get along and work together, but Prince's entire career is filled with that exact same type of drama, lol. There was even a time in the early 90s when he had a falling out with Sheila E. and if I'm not mistaken, they had a recent falling out a few years ago.And let's make a bet....in 6 months or so,we'll be hearing about some drama he's having with the 3rdEyeGirl band, lol

I think you're confusing my posts with someone else's because I never mentioned anything about Prince not doing any wrong. However you just typed a paragraph about eveything Prince that is wrong and yet when things fell apart its so difficult for you guys to point out the O7s wrong doing and keep making excuses for them just like in this very post "oh every band there are issues". Ofcourse there are, but the point is they had the power in their hands to work together without the evil Prince and they screwed it up. Yes they created a kick ass CD thank goodness but to break up so soon after one cd was mind boggling. To be honest I'm sure Prince was laughing his ass off. and no matter what you say, all of the intereviews never made it seem like this was a one cd deal and that was it.

Micki's only claim to fame is being a replacement member of Shalamar hanging with Prince doesn't change that. Jesse has had a very successful career outside of The Time. He is irreplaceable! Micki was just a Prince wannabe that never made it. Most gifted artist have issues that are unbearable to some. Jesse is no different. I will NEVER turn my back on him. Like most on here turn their back on Prince. But if The 07V3N replaces him. They will lose a fan in me/ I'm not having or standing for it...

Make up your mind in one post they were gonna be HUGE and in the next you reduce them to just an '80s funk band'. We know you're happy to have gotten the CD too. Thanks yeah it was pretty awesome. I've had many, many great times with BOTH versions of the band.
Now I've heard some absolutely crazy stories about Jesse, but I can really only judge how he was with me which was very Cool.

I don't believe that any guitarist in any band is "irreplaceable".There are thousands of truly talented guitarists out there.Jesse is great,no doubt, but the guys could have easily found a new guitar player.I have heard Micki play and he is very, very good.Don't go by what you heard on those Shalamar records...lol...he wasn't able to "let loose" on those records.I find it absurd that you would stop being a fan of a band just because they change guitarists.Did you stop liking Prince when Dez Dickerson left? What about when he fired Wendy?

Yeah,my bad...my comments were directed at HonestMan.
I'm not "making excuses" for the Original7.I'm just looking at things from a different perspective.I NEVER heard ,or read anywhere, that this was supposed to be a permanent situation. As you know,Jam and Lewis still produce other artists, and Morris still tours with his own version of The Time. The fact that he didn't disband that group should have been your first clue.I always sensed that this would be a one-time deal, with *MAYBE* another album somewhere down the line.Look what happened when they "reunited" in 1990 for the Graffiti Bridge/Pandemonium project.Less than a year later, everyone went back to whatever they were doing before the reunion.I don't know why some fans thought things would be different this time.
In the end, this is a pointless discussion It is what it is.We got a great CD.Enjoy it.Life moves on,lol.

I actually think it's sad that he's not more supportive of these guys. They were clearly the best protege act that he ever created and he should be proud of them.He should have been encouraging them to reunite. But I guess some things never change.Prince is only happy when he's battling somebody.

I don't recall any of the band members saying that he discouraged them from reuniting. The could not use the name but other than that they could do what they want. I too wish the name thing was not an issue.

Again, people who are crusaders for associated artists/former band members of Prince will only see and hear what they want to hear and ignore the truth. Prince is always all wrong and associated artists can never do any wrong . I'm not attacking by the way, just pointing out what I mean:
http://www.themortonreport.com/entertainment/music/an-interview-with-jimmy-jam-of-the-original-7ven/
From Jimmy Jam's own words:
"Speaking of touring, how has the departure of Jesse Johnson affected your plans? The plan is to absolutely go forward and do dates. We’re putting those together right now. Our plan is to do festivals where we can get in front of a lot of people, not only the old fans but potential new fans. We’re working along those lines. Our thought is, we’re in it for the long term and aren’t really looking at it as a one-off project. We’re looking at it as supporting Condensate, but also thinking about the next album and future songs. Jesse is a member of the family and always will be. We wish him well with what he does. We hope all the fans will support him and everything that he does. We obviously don’t see eye-to-eye about some things at this time. At some point, down the line, you never know what’s going to happen. You may see us all together again. In the meantime, we are going to audition guitar players for The Time so we can tour and support the record. Six out of seven ain’t bad, so we’ll go with that."

Jesse is just not any guitarist! He was a successful recording artist in his own right! When he played with the original "The Time" reunions, his segments slayed the rest of the band, although all of them have had hits in their own right. This is not just the case of just replacing a guitarist. Micki is a good guitar player, I've heard his work also; Not just with Shalamar. But has anyone else have? That is my point! Jesse has a fanbase. Micki doesn't. As far as Prince changing band members. That is not a valid point. Prince is a single artist & the master of his own MUZIQ career. His band are only hired musicians he taught his "Masterpieces" to and are replaceble at the drop of a dime. Their not a group and have NEVER had hits outside of it, with the exception of Andre Cymone. Plus Prince would still sell out shows without a band! Just playing an acoustic set. Everyone is their too see him play. Not lil Wendy or Dez..

How can you replace Eddie Van Halen in a band with his name on it? Also Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr can't go out and get someone to replace George & John and call themselves The Beatles. People are not going to buy it. It's doubtful Olivia Harrison & Yoko Ono would approve of such a thing in the first place. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Micki will shred that shit with the best man! Dude who said he has no fan base just needs to get out of the attic because the brother is drawing folks to his shows that sell out and he is a constant. No sporadic shit with him. His website alone speaks for itself www. MickiFree .com He hangs with legends like Santana, ZZ Top and Gene Simmons. Doesn't have a fan base lmfao

They didn't but he was a pretty damn good frontman who unfortunately because of the way music changed tried to play the game. Their last album for SOLAR Wake Up was totally un Shalimar. It was New Jackish. The biggest thing though is Micki and crew were never truly accepted by old Shalimar fans. They wanted Howard, Jody, and Jeffrey. Don't laugh at my funk
