I agree that as a band leader, Vanity was better too. But, puting both records side to side, I'd choose Apollonia 6. Having said this, I'm also with you regarding the second Vanity album. It would have been great; actually, "Vibrator" is my favourite Vanity 6 tune.

Yep as an album Apollonia 6 was better, he was in the Purple Rain in making it so it had to be a little better. But Apollonia the woman wasn't it on the album, I love the songs led by Brenda and Jill Jones and Lisa Coleman helped out a lot on backing vocals. Actually in an interview Susannah Melvoin talked about her sessions work back then and she too lended her vocals to help

It's a shame that there wasn't a second Vanity 6 album! I think it would have incredible! More cutting-edge and nastier than the Apollonia 6 album Side One might have looked like this:

Also, I confess that "Vibrator" makes me really hard. When I listen to it, I know exactly what Prince meant with that "I hate let an erection go to waste".

Unlike Apollonia Vanity was a charismatic band leader, sensual, very playful on the stage and let me tell you, the girl had moves, she knew how to work that body ( which is btw more curvier than Apollonia's- she only had big and later fake boobs) in a very sexy way. She had a natural sex appeal, charm, apparent artistic side (she painted surrealistic and erotic paintings in her free time. She also personally designed many of the outfits that she wore on stage and to events.) and the abilty to excite people.

I prefer Vanity 6's album to Apollonia 6's because it was more fun, experimental, sexier, artistic, raw and of course funkier. It's so sad that drugs ruined her career. She could have been the Janet Jackson/ Paula Abdul of the 80's.

Btw I would like to quote miss Jill Jones:

"In my opinion, I would have to say that Vanity is in the top ten of the most beautiful women I have ever seen....with and without makeup....Just a stunning woman".
