fDELUXE Releases "Live & Tight" It's here, fresh from my mailbox and in frequent rotation around the house and in the car. I'm talking about the new live CD from fDeluxe, "Live & Tight as a Funk Fiends' Fix." Recorded at the Dakota in 2012, the disc features 13 songs - including new and "older" favorites. A standout is the cover of Ike and Tina Turner's "You Got What You Wanted." While it pays tribute to the original artists, it emerges as a timely version and might serve as an indicator of the other material the band will cover on "A.M. Static" - a covers CD to be released in February.

Oliver Leiber - son of the famous lyricist Jerry Leiber ("Hound Dog," "Jailhouse Rock," and "Stand By Me") - plays the guitar on the (live) disc. Oliver Leiber was quite a prolific musician, writer, and producer on a lot of people's records in the 80's and 90's... as well as being a member of Ta Mara & the Seen. So now I am wondering if he's the one referred to in Sheila E.'s song, "Oliver's House." Any thoughts? | |
