TaMara & The Seen's Blueberry Gossip makes New York Mag list of 60 Great Albums You Probably Never Heard Surprised they put her 2nd one on rther than the first, and that The Family wasn't on here. The phrase “blueberry gossip” sounds like the kind of delightful nonsense you’d find on one of Prince’s lyric sheets, and no wonder: Ta Mara and the Seen were Twin Cities–based exponents of the “Minneapolis sound.” They were Prince wannabes, in other words—or, to be precise, Sheila E. wannabes. There are worse things to be, especially when your album is produced by Jesse Johnson, of the Time, and when “Blueberry Gossip” turns out to be this funky. I like both of her albums. Blueberry Gossip was underrated. It didn't have a knockout single to help the album take off plus the album was delayed and basically had no promotion. Of course the first album would be better because of the singles that did well but I thought Blueberry Gossip had a little more depth. David Cochrane was very involved in the project along with Jesse producing. Don't laugh at my funk

I have tried to like this record but I think the song writing is weak. I'll give it another listen though. Thanks for posting the info. | |
