However much I appreciate Jam and Lewis as producers, I find it incredible that they can be placed higher than George Martin, Quincy Jones, Thomas Dolby and others.

Why? They have had more success than all these people, maybe except ofr Quincy Jones.

Not to mention they are writer/producers, so they wrote the sh*t too, not just produced.

A follow-up article. James Mytume agrees and adds a couple other names to the list.

I thought Forbes was a money & business magazine. What does rating producers have to do with it?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

It's just my opinion. I think George Martin and Quincy Jones are more relevant than Jam & Lewis. And as for Thomas Dolby, it's just a personal preference.

Indeed, Gamble and Huff are great too. And Nile Rodgers, Trevor Horn, Brian Eno... I mean, I appreciate Jam and Lewis a lot, but there are a lot of producers whose relevance is higher, in my opinion.

Jam & Lewis hired a much better publicist to plant this story. shrug

WHAT DOES A PUBLICIST DO?

Working in the public relations industry requires thick skin, creativity, and exceptional interpersonal skills. A publicist’s main role is to be a liaison between their client and the media.

*

Publicists are expected to create pr campaigns for their client that will promote their brand and make them more visible within their market. From the healthcare industry to the music industry, a publicist plays as vital role in growing one’s business and strengthening their valuation.

*

So what separates the best publicists from the industry standard? The best publicist is one that can work one-on-one with their client and have consistent focus throughout the entire campaign.

*

AMP3 PR’s publicists are savvy professionals who are conscious of the target market and search for new ways to promote their clients.

*

Publicists create buzz for their clients and help them further build their brand. Regional , national, and international publications, television, and bloggers are all crucial outlets that a publicist utilizes in order to get the word out about a client. A publicist must generate positive media attention for their client while also addressing any negative attention.

*

Publicists are essentially brand managers who help their client increase their visibility and value. The main question a publicist regularly addresses is, “what makes my client press worthy?” This is the foundation of a public relations campaign. A publicist must constantly communicate with and attract new audiences to the client. Cultivating relationships with the media is a crucial skill that our NYC publicists have mastered in order to gain integrity and produce results for our clients.

*

Below are key qualities that all AMP3 PR publicists have:

-The best publicists are those who are invisible. Their role is to generate buzz for the client behind the scenes.

-Are personally involved with their client. This means the publicist maintains a close relationship with the client in order to maintain constant communication and flow of ideas.

-Exceeds the PR industry standard by using unconventional methods of generating press.

I think Quincy is arguably a contender, maybe even higher then them because he produced Thriller and Off the Wall which were so huge they might (MIGHT) outweight J&L in terms of metrics like revenue, etc. Plus Q's work is extremely diverse, moreso than J&L. But J&L OWNED the 80's an first half th 90s.

They were just so prolific no on could touch them.

I agree Nile Rodgers should probably be up there too given his HUGE success with Chic, Madonna, Duran Duran, David Bowie, Human League, and now Daft Punk. Actually he probably should be #1.

George Martin..... sorry but I hate the Beatlles an the 60s are over smile

So we must disagree about The Beatles and George Martin, but we can agree to give number 1 to Mr. Nile Rodgers. biggrin The other day I was listening to the album he (and Bernard Edwards) made to Diana Ross... man, that's music!!!

yeah how could I have left off his Diana album? And Sister Sledge etc. His autobiography is amazing. Nile probably had a wider and longer lasting influence than Jam & Lewis given the # of genres and decades he has and continues to play in.

He should really get some award for producer of the century or millenium!

I don't think you really read the article. The author's thoughts seems pretty genuine to me. It's high praise that's long overdue. R&B/ Soul artists of the late 80's and 90's receive very little recognition from mainstream media. Once hip-hop went pop, the industry turned it's backs on real musicians, for fear of exposing fruads like DR DRE and Puffy. How many articles have been written about "artists" like Eazy-E or more recently Little Wayne? It's time someone stepped up for Jimmy and Terry. Publicist my azz.
