Back in the 80s,I pretty much bought all of the releases on Paisley Park Records. So when Taja's album was released in late 1987,I purchased a copy.I could never really determine how I really felt about this album It's not terrible, but it's no masterpiece, either.First thing's first...Taja is not much of a singer, but how many of us truly thought that she would be? lol. Some of the songs here are good (I like "Popular" and "How Could You Do Me So Bad?) but other tracks fail to ignite.I'll have to pull this album out and re-evaluate it again. It's been years since I played it.
Thoughts? | |

Interestingly, compared to many other Paisley Park albums,Taja's album actually received alot of promotion.Three singles were released and there were videos for each one...
"Love Is Contagious" "Wouldn't You Love To Love Me" "Popular"
She even visited 'Video Soul' for a lengthy,sit-down interview with Donnie Simpson.
This is way more promotion that the Jill Jones album (released the same year) received.I think they had high hopes for this project.

Prince is so funny... Offering "Wouldn't You Love to Love Me?" to Michael Jackson...

yeah, that seemed like a weird joke I couldn't imagine Michael doing that song.Plus, the song is a throwaway. We all know that Prince had stronger tunes that he could have offered Michael.

the credits say that Prince wrote and produced two tracks on this album---"Wouldn't You Love To Love Me" and "If I Could Get Your Attention"---does anyone if those two songs are his only involvement? "Popular" features the same "give-real-love-a-chance" theme that we heard on "The Glamorous Life" and the ballad "How Could You Do Me So Bad" sounds Princely,to me.

I didn't have her album, but I did like the songs from her that I heard back then, such as Wouldn't You Love To Love Me, and Love Is Contagious. I like the pics they used too. I know this was '87 but I'd wear that look today, ripped jeans, big wavy hair, white tank and boots .

I feel just like you. I really loved her album Toys of Vanity though! Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com
