Mazarati (Black Ratt) Just watched a live show they did back in the day. They were quite good actually. Funk/Rock with a lot of energy. The guitar solos coulda been tighter but they had some nice stage presence. Some serious Minneapolis influence. I wonder if there wasn't some conspiracy/jealousy in the works to make them fail. I'm sure they coulda dropped the glam rock look at any time.

They were more like the black Poison. Poison came out not too long after with the same cross-dressing motif. Even though they didn't really go anywhere, Mazarati had one of the best Prince-related albums ever, and I think it still holds up really well.

I love 100 MPH and Stroke. 100 MPH just has this brooding, relentless Funk sexual feel, kind of loose but held together by the Linns gassy hihat and dark clap, great live intro too! The intro sounds something Prince would of started his live shows with, just awesome.
Stroke is just mean, bad-ass, synth, PURE FUNK! I don't mind all the getup. At the time it was interesting, I think it was a very unique and shocking look. And plus, it was Funk. THAT'S what the Funk lifestyle is. It's freaky. It's suppose to shock the khaki's off the white folk! C'mon! I was thinking today about how Hip-Hop has overtaken that creative, free, daring, brave, attitude that Funk has. They were cool and still are. "Mazarati, upside yo' head!"

Yes they laid down some serious grooves that would still hold up today.I was thinking RATT because RATT had a more driven/harder sound. POISON was just all hair (LOL).

I have a Sonny Boy CD and never connected the dots. I just liked it and didn't dig deeper. Thanks, today I learned something.

It's a travesty I tell 'ya, a travesty!
...And if you ask me, they look better than RATT, and Poisen, and all those other glam bands Didn't Brownmark say the only reason they dressed like that was because o Prince or something like that? [This message was edited Fri Mar 14 21:46:02 PST 2003 by lovebizzare] ~KiKi

Didn't Brownmark say the only reason they dressed like that was because o Prince or something like that? [/quote] That's what I heard. They kinda look like a tripped out BandOfGypsies. Doesn't matter what you look like anyway as long as the sound is tight.
