Woo-Hoo! I can't wait!!! I did my part: I pledged $50 for the "live" and "covers" CDs, plus I am gifting the same to my mother. (She's 63 and is a HUGE fan, since '85!) You've got to hurry though because they only have a limited number of offerings - but what great choices! WOW - very nice fDeluxe... THANK YOU!!!! woot! excited

They got my support. I've pledged for the covers CD and the live CD. I've been thinking about bringing them to play to my house in Madrid, but 20.000 $ is too much for a poor Spaniard.. lol

Please, guys, we make no money, so you send us your hard-earned cash, so we can buy studio time and then you use your own Twitbook accounts to promote us because we can't afford a manager!

Hmmm - bit harsh. At the end of the day it's a choice. I think it's very innovative. I'm sure if Prince had come up with this idea, many of us would be saying how cool it was, and the chance to have your name in the album credits of one of your favourite bands is a genius idea.

Little? Yeah, right. It might be little but it's loud

I agree. After YEARS of P fans wanting such reunion, they have it - 25 years later. For people that enjoy and support the music, this grassroots way of getting new music out there is an alternative to signing contracts with record companies that promise, but fail to deliver, to promote your album. They are out from P's shadow, although they respectfully acknowledge where they came from. It isn't that they wouldn't like his support... He simply won't give it. So I think that for Family fans, it isn't too much to ask for help. It is an option and if you don't want to participate in helping get it started, that's your business. But for others, like me, who are enjoying the reunion, don't want it to end, and appreciate they (unlike a certain someone else) reach out to their fans... I'm willing to contribute some of my own "hard-earned cash" so I can see what else the group does on their own.

I give to many of my favorites at pledgemusic! Maybe at one time I would have looked at this harsh but with downloading..nah

Really no different when P took preorders for "Crystal Ball" and would only release when it got a ridiculous number.

What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

yes it is. If you don't like it don't participate.
Better yet go use your time and money to create something and try to sell it and see how that works out for you. Make sure it's something people routinely steal while you are at it. lol

Such a cool idea. I was in the minute I saw Eric Leeds signed CD on there. People need to do this.

Of course they must do this, since almost everybody steal music nowadays.

Seems to me that they shouldnt be so lazy and go on tour and make some money instead of sitting on their asses and wanting the fans to fund their project. I'm not going to get any royalties like a record company would get if I donate the money to the project. They need to get real. Go on tour and make some money. Play small clubs!! On top of it all they are doing a covers album!! lol Pathetic!! I hate covers so this is one I definately will not buy never mind donate to. I like Fdeluxe but this is very disappointing news. They lost me on this one!!

You clearly have no idea what it takes to make a record - creatively or financially - or what it costs to go tour. Try doing a little research on how things work before posting. Do you know that Warner Brothers entire model as a record labelis based on crowd funding? Lots of major artists go this way to go directly to their fans and cut out the middle man. And you get stuff for your support, its not a handout. Labels get royalties becasue they invest hundreds of thousands of dollars, not $20 or $100. All of these musicians work hard, probably a lot more hours than you. It truly irks me when someone has no clue how hard most artists work and think they are lazy when it is quite the opposite. The average person does not have to do a tenth of what creative people do in their jobs. Are you just willfully ignorant or post out of a need for people to pay attention to you? I'm sure no on will miss your support.

Its funny how as a local band I make over $100,000 a year just touring primarily in 4 states. Im just in a local band so I am sure an established band could do the same and the $5 covers that we get would be at least $25-50 for the Family. Recording is not as expensive as you may think either. Most of the work can be done in your home studio or even a computer nowadays. We only take our mixes to the "real" studio for the final mixing. Im glad they wont miss my support because they are not getting it. Donate your money zannaloaf, I am keeping mine.

Well crowd sourcing is the new thing so I aint mad them to taking advantage of it. But I do agree, I also know of local musicians with bands who make a decent living without having to directly ask the public for financial support like that. But again, crowd sourcing is what's happening now.

And I already donated.

Trax must not think I'm serious- but I am. Anyine who can make a living at their craft is worth seeing, especuially pulling in that kind of $$ in a local band. Do you do originals? Do you have any albums avaialble? Streaming music? I may not be able to make it to a show if I'm not nearby, but would love to check out the music.

They are touring. And they do not sit on their asses either. They work damn hard.

This is not really a new thing, several performers have done this already. The new album Foward by the Brand New Heavies was partly funded in this way. Some filmmakers have used this method too.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
