Donna Grantis, the best female guitarist Prince has ever had?

Well, I don't ever recall Prince letting any of his other female guitarist have solo opportunities like she gets. I'm just saying........

She's skilled, no doubt.

What metrics are you look for with regards to the "best" though? Creativity? Versatility? Being in the pocket? Soloing? Showpersonship?

/

Soloing is just really one aspect of guitar craft. Dig?

Great point! I mentioned solos but I think she does it all well. I checked her out on Youtube and she is a beast!

I'm biased. I love the influence Wendy had with regards to Prince. She was a little younger than Donna is now when she was influencing P. She was at her peak pretty in pocket, and I believe more than capable of performing P's guitar runs.

Granted, Donna is getting a lot of shine. And Prince is doing like back in the day like he did with Wendy and using their writings for works (immediately I'm thinking of Wendy and Lisa's Mountains/Donna's Plectrum Electrum).

Although neither of them have the Andy Allo chops! biggrinbiggrin

what's really interesting is that she posts practice sessions on her website as well as tips/ideas as to how to become more proficient in different styles. Nice to see someone so into getting those 10,000 hours+ in.

Eh.. no she wasn't. That's pretty obvious from the live recordings where you can hear her trying.

The wooh is on the one!

Perhaps? That's why I kind of leave for it and specifically mention, "at her peak" and "I believe" wink Na'meen?

Guess I gotta start getting on board for some of those older tapes, eh?

There's not that many to choose from, right? What you're really asking is: Do you like Donna or Wendy? Comparisons like that make no sense. It's 2013, not 1983.

Kat Dyson, even Ida plays some licks from time to time. Oh, is it 2013? "Time is just a trick".

I just watched Andy Allo play some guitar and I think she deserves some credit. She is really pretty good.

I would love to see the greatest rocking female guitarist I have ever seen, Berit Fridahl on stage with Prince...!!!!

I saw her last year in concert with Heather Nova in Cologne.

She is fantastic :-)

Greatings from Germany.

For over all "what they brought to the table" talent, Wendy Melvoin will never be topped. Think of that every time you listen to the intro to Purple Rain cool

I do love Donna though, she was amazing at the show I got to see her at in San Diego, loved the whole 3rdeyegirl band actually.

Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.
